Need help asap

My wifes runner had a malfunction yesterday... front diff is now leaking fluid.. I visually inspected it and it doesn't seem to be leaking from the shafts .. seems more like from the gasket ... any ideas on what could have caused this and how much it is commonly to get repaired??

When you say malfunction, did something happen or you just noticed it leaking?

It just started to leak and smoke "got on the manifold"

gaskets fail. it's not a big issue.
