Need help buying an 85

My friend is in the market for an 85 Runner:dancin:, we our going to take a look at some, is there any thing we should look out for before pulling the trigger?
Are there any common problems with the 85?

I'd say rust but you wont have to worry being out in CA (lucky). Other than that check to see that the timing chain isn't eating through the housing. I'm sure other people will add more.

Listen carefully to the manual transmission. 5th and 3rd gear start to sound pretty bad when first, then you lose the rest of the gears later. It is usually just bearings inside, costs about $1000 to rebuild professionally so throw that into the negotiations. Good luck
