Need help deciding!

I'm looking to buy my first runner and my gf's sister has a 2001 Sr5 4WD with 108,000 miles that was her daily commute. It looks like it just came off the showroom floor and has never been off road. She decided she wanted a prius instead so they are looking to sell the runner. They're asking 9,500 but offering it to me for 5,000, should I jump on this because to be honest I really have not looked into the pricing.

That's what I keep hearing from everyone. I want something dependable to drive back and forth to school especially in the winter and I like the comfort of an suv because I'm 6'3 and need the space to spread out and do some hunting and love off roading.

5 grand for that is a steal...seriously..the police might come to your house :D

as long as there were no accidents or anything, get it

The only issue is an oxygen sensor and her husband told me if I were to buy it he would pay to have a new one installed by the dealership and also pay the taxes and registration fees and if I wanted a complete tune up with new plugs and wires, jsut the whole deal.

And what is this pink milkshake issue I keep hearing about? Something I need to be concerned with?

If it really runs and looks good, you will not come across another deal like this ever again so get it before someone else offers her $8 or 9K. With only 108K, the strawberry milkshake probably isn't going to happen for a long time (if ever) so you have a while to research it and figure out if you want to get an external tranny cooler or just a new radiator. The 02 sensor is ~ $200 job p&l. Plugs and wires is ~ $150 p&l (at the dealer). Grab it!!!

Thanks everyone for the advice and help. I just got off the phone with her and I'm going to pick it up this weekend!

That is a smok'n deal!

You will not be sorry. If you continue to keep it in good condition and maintain it, it will easily last well over 300K+ miles.

There is a reason a lot of people here and elsewhere swear by them.

Welcome & can't wait to see the pictures!

Thanks. Another quick question: once I get it I want to get new seat cloth or leather because of normal stains because of pets and kids. I'm not too concerned about the back seat because my dog will be traveling but would like to replace the front cloth, any possible way to switch to leather?

You can always find another Runner to swap interiors but is it worth it? I had some normal stains/ wear in mine. Rather than doing a leather swap ($$$), I bought a carpet cleaner, some floor mats and a trunk liner. Cleaned her right up. I would much rather spend the money on other improvements than switching the cloth for leather. Let's face it, you got the SR5 for a screaming deal, it's not the fancy limited so why fight it.

Welcome to the party!

I can't wait to see pics, you could probably turn around and sell that runner for almost double. just get some wet okole seat covers!

Wrex-that makes sense. I can't wait to get it and clean it up like it deserves.

Drinknmolson-I checked those seat covers out and I love them, will deff be ordering them!

Still need to clean the seats and carpet first!

I use a product called Petzyme to clean all my organic stains.
Drinks, pet fluids, food, etc...on everything from clothes and carpets to the upholstry and carpets in my vehicles.
The stuff is designed to take out cat spray and the odors associated with that. I have not found any organic type stain this stuff cant remove.

Again, smokin' deal!

Coverking

What I did because it is rather expensive to get seats re-upholstered is I went to coverking.com and just got the gray "leatherette" covers which feel like leather but are probably more durable. They fit great and have fooled two repair shops and the Toyota dealer. They all said "the new seats look great." Then they were shocked when I said they are covers. What is nice about the leatherette is it won’t be damaged by water dirt and can be cleaned easy. Sounds like you are a bit of an outdoorsman so these would work great. I got the fronts first to see how they fit. I think they were like $225 for the fronts. I’m about to order the back seat because I am so happy with them. Coverking is just an idea. I think it was well worth the money.
