Need help fixing a seat belt buckle

Was about to leave for a road trip, when one of the backseat passengers tried buckling up and the seat belt won't latch. It's appears that the buckle is staying locked in position and won't release.

Any suggestions?

Maybe spray a little lubricate in it and see if it will release, if not hit it with a hammer, maybe lightly, if that doesn't work hit it HARD and then go to the savage yard to find another!!!.

Sounds like a Pepsi syndrome or a penny or a peanut. Raised three boys in a minivan. Dug a lot of stuff out of seat beats. The youngest would show the flavor of ice cream he wanted by pointing to the stains on the headliner.

I had a similar problem with my seat belt latch. I could not get it to "Click in" I would have to angle it weirdly and push it down really hard to get it to click in.

Then I sprayed WD-40 inside and problem fixed.

Once you get it unstuck, I'd spray it with a cleaner that breaks down crud, blow it dry, and then lube it with some dry graphite. That should get it working smoothly again unless it's tweaked up inside.

Not too far off...took the seatbelt receiver apart and it was a small piece of glass that must have got stuck in there, when my 4runner was broken in to. Crazy.

How do you take it apart? I need to take my apart to fix it. I had hard time to take the black cover off. Thanks

Hey! I know this is an old post, but I found it searching online for the same issue and I figured many others are too. I came across safety restore when I was searching for a solution and their service saved me a lot of money and time. Basically I just sent them my seat belt and once they received it, they fixed it and sent it back to me within 24 hrs and I just had to place it back in. It worked and looked like new.
