Yes it does answer something, it answers the question "what is the state of charge?"
You really think the "state of charge" is 14.7 volts?

No, 14.7 is not the state of charge. It is an indication of the state of charge. In this case to be specific I doubt he had 14.7 volts at the battery with the engine off, so if we are to be totally accurate, my statement is incorrect because it would not indicate state of charge if the alternator were providing that reading. Still answers something, that the alternator is charging and the battery cable to the alternator has a complete circuit.
I was speaking to the basic battery diagnostic theory, where Voltage has a direct correlation to state of charge ie: 12.0 is dead, 12.4 would me 50% discharged(more or less) and 12.7 would be charged.
I'm with you that the OP never did answer any questions asked of him, I see it here all the time. Someone wants help, but they want to TELL you they checked "everything" and everything is good. Haha! I think I was addressing the statements by another poster. Sorry for the confusion.
