need help in finding the right front shocks

I have Ome front shock I think 9004 with Ome 881 springs and I keep going through CV axles. What bilistien shocks do I need to repalce the OME shocks with and about how much are they. When I replaced the CV axle the first time I bought ones with a lifetime Warranty so it dosn't cost mush to replace just labor but, its a hassel. I only seem to have a problem with the CV's after the 4runner has been put on a lift a couple of times. I think the OME's just drop to low and stress the CV's If I'm wrong please fill me in.

It's doubtful to me that your front shocks are causing CV axle trouble. Can you show us a shot of how that looks?

I'm guessing you might benefit from a (front) differential drop kit-around $30- but I have 881s up front and never needed it.

Do you have excessive bounce or rebound on your front end?

Many, many choices for shocks, and not required to use Old Man Emu shocks with Old Man Emu springs. Some guys like Bilsteins, some say stick with Tokicos which were Original Equipment or Tokico Trekmasters which I believe are an upgrade.

I have a diff drop it was installed when the lift was.I don't have any excessive bounce or rebound. I was thinking of going with bilistiens and the OME springs. I thought I read something on Sonoran steels site about the OME 91S shock shaft being to long and causing excessive wear to the CV's.Not to sure but every now and then I hear the CV's making noise.

I'm not sure what your problem is, but I might buy those 90004 off you if you end up taking them out.

i have a complete OME lift on my 4runner and have never had any problems cv's because of the lift and i do a fair bit of off-roading. did you install any kind of spacer with the OME lift that would put a steeper angle on the cv's?

There are no spacers installed. I'm going to have a buddy go over it with me it just could have been the first pair were the originals and the second pair are just cheap Auto Zone ones. If they are bad I'll replace with Toyota ones.

With the 881 coils, you are only getting approximately 2-2.5 inches of lift which shuld not cause the CV boots to tear prematurely. Neither Bilstein or OME recommend combining OME coils with the Bilstein shocks either. As Ron said, The shocks would not be causing the CV boots to go bad. The cheap auto parts store CV's have a universal boot which is really low quality. I have seen those boots rip within 100 miles on a stock truck. Go Toyota OEM for the boots and add a diff drop and you should be good.
