Do you an amplifier powering the JL's or are you using the headunit?? It is possible that your old speakers were more efficient and thus worked better with your headunit. The JL's may sound better if you use a separate amplifier.

You want to get an amp that will properly power your speakers. You need to refer to the speaker specifications to view the minimum and maximum handling capabilties. 50x4 is usually what people use however.

I assume you put your 4" in your rear doors. I wouldn't get an amplifer just for those. I think you should go upgrade my front speakers with some 6.5 components and get an amplifer for all 4 of them. Or if you can't afford it. Return your 4" speakers, buy new front component speakers and get an amp for them.

Why would you put 4" in the front, isn't that a little lacking? You should be looking for some bigger speakers.

you don't need an AMP on those TR 4"... those are like an oversized tweeter. Is it possible you have them out of phase, thus having to increase your volume to max in order to hear them?
