Need help locating a stubby swing out hinge

I'm in search of a hinge like these Tire Carrier Swingout Heavy Duty Hinge Kit only shorter. Need something no more than 2-2.5"s long where the swingout arm would attach.

Ive searched around using Google on a few forums including pirate4x4 but haven't found anything yet. Thought someone here might know something.

All the ones with a sealed bearing are 4" tall. Seems that is the standard length but im not sure why. Im using 2x1.5 stock as i need to keep the hinge low enough that it doesnt prevent the rear door from opening. My intention is to put a tire carrier on my AOR rear bumper and I like the greased bearing idea better.

I just don't know how long the oiled bronze bushing would last but I could possibly get that style to fit.
 
You will need much greater bearing strength on a 2-2.5 inch hinge due to the much higher leverage that the weight of the carrier will have over the shorter spindle. This may be why they are harder to find.

Can you design it in a way that the hinge is to the side of the hatch?

Wouldn't the leverage be lesser or the same on a shorter hinge? I say the same because the arm itself would be the same length...idk maybe my thinking is off.

Unfortunately the plate on the side of the AOR bumper would have to be cut which would weaken the support for side protection.
 
Look at it as a big a big lever with a 90 degree bend. The long side is horizontal (swing out part), the fulcrum at the center of the top bearing, and the short side is vertical and ends at the center of the bottom bearing.

In this case as the length of the short side changes, the force exerted on the short side changes in an inverse linear relationship (half the length = double the force)

In any case I looked around a bit and couldn't find anything that seemed to fit what you are looking for.

If you have access to a lathe then you could buy a kit with a 4 inch spindle and cut 2 inches off of both the spindle and the bearing housing, then re-thread the end of the spindle. At that point you are almost machining you own piece...
