I am lifting the 4runner tomorrow with a 3" Revtek spacer lift. I am currently running an all terrain 265/75/16. I am going to put sr5 fender flares on it and want to run the mudguards also. So here is the deal, I want a mud tire and am looking at bfgkm2's or firestone destination m/ts in 255/85/16 or 285/75/16. Will I be able to run the fender flares with front and rear mudguards? Will the skinnier 255's fit better? I don't really want to have problems with hard rubbing. Not a big fan of trimming sheet metal, unless it is real minor, and would prefer not to do a 1" body lift. Please help tell me what works on your rigs. Thanks

stick with the 265/75's or get a little wider version, I would not recommend a 33" tire with a 4banger. I am running 285/75's with 2.5" front and 3" rear and limited flares, the front rub toward the cab which I will trim and get a 1"bl, but even with the v6 and manual tranny I notice a slight decrease in power. I couldn't imagine what they would do to a 4cyl. besides I have seen plenty of runners with that lift and 265/75's.

I agree with drinkmolson, the 265/75s will be better for a 4 banger. If you do go to 33s, you'll probably want to regear soon and that's expensive. I've ran 285/75s in the past and I'm currently running 255/85s and both require trimming and cutting on the fenders (even with my 1" body lift). The 255s rub a little more than 285s.
I have 285/57's right now and really only get rub when I'm at full lock either right or left. So I notice it mostly going into and out of parking spots. The gap is very small between the tire and what looks to be the UCA.
I've thought about getting wheel spacers but I've adjusted my driving technique a little bit so that I hardly ever rub.
I went trail riding last weekend and didn't have any problems with the gap being to small.

What abot the SR5 mud gaurds that integrate into the black SR5 flares. Can you still run the gaurds, or with they have to be trimmed or removed?
Thats one of the deciding factors for me if I ever want to go bigger. I dont like how the SR5 flares stop a few inches from the bottom of the fender, looks unfinished. IMHO you need the gaurds to make it look right.
Also, is it bad to have your tire that close to the UCA? My buddy has a 08 Taco and is running the revtek, stock wheels, and 285/75 Hancooks and his tire is mere milimters away from his UCA.

33s will rip those flaps off if you wheel a lot or do difficult trails even here and there. That's why I haven't bothered getting them on mine because I wheel about every other weekend, but I agree they do look better. I even had to remove my rear flaps because I was tearing them off too.
Touching the UCA will wear down the sidewall and could possibly blow a tire over time. Wheelersoffroad.com sells 1/4" spacers for like $5 plus shipping if you need them. Between having the 4 banger and the fact that 265s won't rub anywhere so you can run all 4 flaps, I think the 265/75s are the best choice for you.

It's sad that I kind of knew that but was hoping one of you would step up and say the 285's were the way to go. I was really wanting the 285's, they just look meaner. Thanks all for being my good conscience. LOL

With a 3" suspension lift (spacers) on a 98 6 cyl. SR5 4x4 can I go with anything higher (not wider) than a 265/75/16 without having rubbing?
I want to make sure I do not have any rubbing and that I can still put chains on if need be wthout trimming anything or rubbing.
Please advise me "my 4R brothers!"

Check out the Kumho Road Venture M/T's while you're at it. They fit and look great and the drjve is amazing. Had them for a year and still have half tread and I drive highway 40 mins a day. The off road wih them is great they grab onto anything. Going to buy another set after lift.
I'm stock and only trimmed the valance so 3" should look good with them. Also the sidewall is great for those oops against a curb. ;-) anyways just my two cents. For the price of them being cheaper than bfg's etc they are well worth it. Keep the rating to a C or D. The E 10 ply will ride rough.
Good luck and whatever you choose I'm sure will still look good.
