need help on new taillight install...

New Taillights Installed (pics)

so my girlfriend bought me some new taillights (TYC) for christmas. the problem is im not really all that smart about cars and have no clue on how to put them on. i know its only 2 screws to take off the factory tails. there new tails have all the bulbs and run together in a single white box. but i couldnt find where to unplug the factory lights for the new ones.

anybody know how to do this...


also in the process i somehow made my right side lights not work anymore...

Do they plug into the same wiring harness you have? Or is it a totally new wiring harness?

I'm assuming when you pull the light out, the sockets for the factory lights didn't fit into the new TYC lights? If you haven't tried this it might be the easiest solution. If this won't work you have to pull the side panels and the wiring harness will unplug not too far behing the light. You unplug that connector and pull out the original harness with the original light and feed the new harness in and plug it in. Some of these aftermarket harnesses require a ground. Make sure you ground it, if it does. Pretty simple to pull the side panels and shouldn't take you more than an hr if you take your time. Post some pics once you get them installed.

I have TYC Tail Lights and the factory harness fits perfectly with the new lights, its even fool proof aka you cannot put the stop light in the turn signal cause of different size.

yea at first since i couldnt find where to unplug the new connector i just decided to undo all the factory light bulb connectors and put them into the new lights. for some reason though the break light fit, but the reverse and turn signals didn't.

my friend told me i probably undid the connector deep behind there when i was tugging on the wires.

does anybody know how to remove those side panels?

Use the harness and bulb sockets that came with your new light and follow the directions listed below.

1. Open the hatch. Look down. You should see a plastic strip holding down the carpet with 4 or 5 phillip screws. Unscrew and remove. It pops right out.

2. Look to the left and right. You should see the cargo cover holders with one phillip screw holding them on. Unscrew. Remove.

3. Start from the bottom of the interior quarter panels and tug toward midline of the vehicle. You should hear the clips pop.

4. Look around the back of the panel to assess clearance. Use a 10mm socket to remove the screw/bolt holding the ground. There's not enough clearance for a screwdriver to fit. Remove ground wire. Take note of cig lighter ground on passenger side under the same bolt.

5. Unplug stock harness. Unscrew tail light - 2 phillips screws on exterior. Remove rubber grommit, stock harness, and stock ground.

6. Install new lights.

thanks for the instructions, but luckily for me about an hour after i posted this my dad came over and just did it for me since he is pretty auto savvy.

Now announce on yotatech that you have some OEM 01-02 Tails for sale and people will go crazzzzzzy, that is if you're interested in making some more money..

i have a blown brake light though on the right tails and they have dirt all on the inside of them.

think people would still buy them?

Haha yeah man, brake lights only cost like a dollar to replace and mine were covered in dirt and I sold them! :bigok:
