Need help shock headaches

Ok I am running 890 spring in the rear as of right now. I am on my third set of shocks when I got my kit I got everything from farbobs garage. My problem is with the Shocks from fatbob they don't stay tight. I have used thread locker lock nuts and lock washers this last time I took my runner to the local 4x4 shop and had a shock installed same problem. At this point I just want a shock that rides good and that I can walk in to the local auto parts store and but off the shelf vs ordering them on line. This is my DD with some light wheeling on the beach and some mud ever now and then.

I have Monroe Gas Magnums for the Land Cruiser in the rear (LC springs). They have a nice ride and are a good match for the Nitro 9000 shocks in front (in fact, I'm amazed at how well it rides and handles with the hodgepodge of springs/shocks I have). They are about $40 each and I've run them for about 55K miles so far.

What's coming loose the nut at the top or the bolt/nut at the bottom?

I have Monroe Gas Magnums for the Land Cruiser in the rear (LC springs). They have a nice ride and are a good match for the Nitro 9000 shocks in front (in fact, I'm amazed at how well it rides and handles with the hodgepodge of springs/shocks I have). They are about $40 each and I've run them for about 55K miles so far.

What springs you running in the rear and what year shocks? Are the shock right off the shelf bolt in.

Are you including a bushing between the top nut and the bracket? If you are trying to tighten it down on metal, the shock moves around too much and it will come loose every time. There's supposed to be a bushing and only needs to be torqued to 12 lbs/ft.

The springs are Land Cruiser 7 7/8 wraps (about 4" lift unloaded) and the shocks are 1997 Land Cruiser REAR (96-98 are the same). They are longer than 4Runner shocks for the lift.

Yes bushing both sides. Like I said I have had problems with this shocks from the get go and this would be the third set I install if I go back to the farbobs shocks so I think I will just install some LC shocks

Have you tried just putting a second nut on top to lock it in place?

My KYB's I just put on provided a smaller nut just for this reason.

No never really thought about that I guess a two nuts would work

I have to install a new shock anywas from where the shocks has beat around and messed up the threads on the shock so I guess I will be installing LC shocks anywas

No worries then! If the new one give you trouble too, just put a second nut on there and that should solve it.

Just an update installed the Monroe Gas Magnums today the over all size and length of what I purchased for fatbobs was the same size as the LC OEM replacement but man did they right a 100 times better... With 890 spring and these shocks it is a great ride.
