SOLVED, sister's 2000 4Runner wont start after front end hit (slid into pole)

She slid into a pole during the storm last Sunday. Went to get it from the tow place and it cranks &starts for a moment & dies. I dont hear any fuel pum p run when I turn the key to the on position. Should I be able to hear the pump? (most cars you do for 4-5 seconds). So, my questions is does a 4 runner have an "inertia switch" like some car that cuts the fuel pump? Any help is great as it is $75 a day storage...

get the truck out of that yard, and check the battery and buy a fuel pump.

I drove 20 miles with a trailer on to do just that and had to come home without it. They have a "no help" policy and this is a huge yard. It needs to run to back out of spot at least to get lined up to even winch on. I was alone cause the damage was light enough I had no idea the thing would be a "not start" when I got there.

Can anyone advise if I should hear an electric fuel pump when turning the key to the "on" position?

i've never noticed mine making any noise

but it doesn't mean its not there

and when my friend slid off the road and put a tree where the headlight was in his 96(now my parts truck), it started the next day. we hooked up a chain to the body and pulled it away from the wheel and drove it back to his house

I can't hear the fuel pump on ours. Maybe if I put my ear against the fuel tank.

I've never been able to hear the fuel pump. Check for a bent air intake hose, if the crash tweaked it it may not be getting enough air to stay running.

Hit the gas tank with a plastic hammer and while doing that have someone try to start it, that could help the fuel pump if it is sticking.

Also get a tow rope and a buddy to get in the 4runner, and pull it out of the parking lot with your buddy steering the 4runner.

Can you describe the extent of damage from the accident please? Why was it towed in the first place?

I found it! The red wire on the connector to the ignitor was pulled out of the connector from the airbox pushing back into it. I winched it on the trailer.

Also saw why she likely lost it on the ice when I got in to put it in nuetral to winch onto trailer. Her diff. lock switch was depressed. She had locked her 2 little dogs in the car for 45 mins while watching/ picking up niece at vollyball. One of them likely pushed the locking switch in. She had no idea the switch was there or what it did....
