Need help sourcing fobs

I'm the new owner of an old T4R. Seller did not provide any fobs, but a VIN checks it does have "remote keyless entry." Can anyone point me to a source of compatible fobs? I have an 08 SR5 4WD. Ive seen programming posts here, but cant find good info on the hardware itself. Thx

I just bought mine off of Amazon and used the owner's manual to program it.

I have ordered a key for my 4Runner off Amazon as well, but a locksmith had to code the engine immobilizer for me. He said next time to just check with him. He said he has the replacement keys and they are better quality than what I had purchased. He just swapped out one of his for the one I bought.

I also used the same locksmith to replace key/fob combo for our 2012 Corolla. He did all the work in my driveway, in the rain. What a nice guy

As I recall, the fob I bought for my '04 4Runner came with instructions for the setup but I think they are in the owner's manual as well. I'm still using this replacement and it has worked very well, no problems.

Something I have done for the last 20 yrs is cover the VIN in the windshield. Any dealer (or flunky working there) can reproduce the key and fob with just your vin. Just slip a business card over it between the dash and glass

My Gen4 has the fob separate from the key. It was very easy to get this set up and inexpensive. The key requires a locksmith, someone with the device/box that can read-write the immobilizer code. The guy came to my house and his price was very reasonable. I've used him a couple of times now.

Our 2012 Corolla's key is the key and fob together, so you'll need the locksmith. No matter what the locksmith charges, call a Toyota dealership and see what they charge. The locksmith is a MUCH better deal.

The locksmith I used cut a blank key first, then made sure it fit the locks and turned them before cutting the immobilizer key. The blank key will do anything except start the engine. It does crank the engine, but without the immobilizer it won't start.

He gave me that key and I have found it very useful. I hid the chauffeur key in the car and I carry the other key with me. This way I can open the car, roll down the windows, do anything I need to do and not have to carry a bulky key with me. If someone takes my keys I can still get into the car and use the hidden key to get home. I did the same for my daughter in case she loses hers.
