Over the weekend, I tuned up my 2001 Runner. I replaced plugs (used NGK dual ground), wires (NGK), pcv vavle and I tried to replace the fuel filter- more on that in a minute.
Got done, buttoned everything back up, and went to crank the truck and it barely turned over. I just assumed it was because I just changed the fuel filter, so it's got no gas. (I did turn the key and wait about 5 second before cranking so the electric fuel pump could do its job priming...)
Thing is, it cranks hard (barely turns over- a lot of pull on the battery), but then fires rights up after about 3 seconds of cranking. And it runs great! Best it's ran since I've had it- smooth, a lil more power and no more pulsing.
I checked all connections, hoses, etc.. and I don't see anything disconnected.
I plan on stopping by the auto parts store on the way home to have them check my battery.
Could I have caused such a problem by the tune-up? I didremove/unplug the entire air box assembly, hoses and MAF sensor. But I plugged everything back up. I didn't touch the battery because I wasn't digging into electrical stuff.
Or could it be a battery//elecrtical issue that started at the same time...?
Any thoughts...?
As for the fuel filter- I can't believe Toyota says it's a lifetime part. Mine was possibly original- I don't know. But the gas that came out was completely black- it looked like mud water. I can't belive how dirty it was.
Problem was, the cheap POS I got to replace it from the auto part store had a fitment issue, it was leaking. So I put the old one back on until I can get a new one from the dealership.
