need help w/ jvc install in 95 4runner

I stupidly followed the jvc instructions and cut out the wire harness which is NOT the same dual one as shown on installdr.com. Mine was a single.

And yes; I certainly know about wiring harnesses but I live in Alaska and am not connected by road to anywhere. Ordering even small items generally takes a good 6 weeks unless the co will ship via usps and they rarely do so I opted to connect as per jvc instructions; like I've always done.

Have installed two other stereos a long time ago but never had any problems.

Did NOT know about the amp in the 4runner. I know it needs to be connected before the speakers will function but am not sure how to do that.

The antenna plug is obvious but there's another silver plug (towards the center of the pic) that also appears to go NOT to the amp but towards the antenna. I have no idea what that plug is for and there is no receptacle for it on the JVC.

I know I have the correct power and ignition cables hooked up as the unit powers up but only when the key turns the accessories on. I know I have the correct front speaker wiring but still no sound. I haven't bothered to hook up the rear speakers yet since I may have to require everything anyway.

Does anyone know that the second plug is for or how to connect the amp so i don't have to rewire everything for lousy factory speakers?

that plug you sadly cut off? whatever..no biggg deal.

Follow that cable down, and that silver box it goes into, is actually a small factory amplifier.

Remove the factory amplifier, and on the other side, issss A REGULAR TOYOTA PLUG!!!

If you have already bought a toyota harness (two rectangle plugs, one bigger than the other, one plug just has green and purple wires -rears-) then you will just plug it into that.

Didn't buy a plug already cause I didn't want to wait 6 weeks or so for delivery to alaska. Shipping by usps is great here but any other means is really overpriced and not very reliable.

Didn't realize the plugs were underneath the amp. I cut the harness from the amp itself as that's what the jvc instructions I had said to do. Didn't think it was a big deal since I'd done this before but neither vehicle had an amp in it already.

Do I need to remove the amp for the jvc to work?

I touched the jvc rear speaker wires to a separate speaker and all I got was static when I moved the wires. Didn't disconnect the front speaker wires since I didn't think it would matter.

The truck's a 95 that I don't expect to have for more than a year or two so I didn't want to buy a new cd player but I'm ready to go to Crutchfield to get the dash up off the floor.

I'm not sure what I should try next.

you should not be cutting the factory plugs, you should have a harness..

the one for that truck, and most toyotas is the metra

so I should remove the amp, order a plug for the jvc and then connect?

I have no sound when I touch the wires to a separate working speaker now (just scratching noises) and the only connections I made for the jvc are with the power, ignition and front speakers.

How do I check the jvc is ok under the circumstances? I figured if I connected a separate speaker it should work regardless of the other connections on the jvc unit.

you need to just unplug the 2 plugs going into the bottom of the amp and use those.

Here are your wire colors...

12V - blue/yellow
ground - brown
ignition - gray
illumination - green
power antenna - black/red and pink/blue
left front +/- - pink : purple
right front +/- - lt green : blue
left rear +/- - black : yellow
right rear +/- - red : white

All your rear speakers will be in the small plug. Everything else is in the big plug.
