Need help w/ new alloy wheels...

Hey all-

I'd like to pick the collective brains of those out there who know more about Tacoma/4Runner Chou Seiki alloys than I do. I installed a set of 15x7 alloys on my '93 4WD 4Runner w/auto hubs from a '98 2WD 4Runner. The problem: the center caps on front are too shallow and don't fit. The size stamped inside the '98 2WD wheel is J15x7JJ. I noted a '96-'98 4WD Tacoma today w/ alloys that had T15x7JJ stamped inside. A different wheel for 4WD vs 2WD? I inquired at Desert Toyota here in Tucson but they were useless - no help at all. Does anyone know if a deeper 4WD center cap exists? Should I modify/cut out the center? All recommendations welcome...

Drill out the center cap and paint the copper-colored dust cap silver. Check out my post "pics of my 94 with new (used) wheels. It's on the same forum page as your post, near the top. There are also a couple of others who have done t. Try some searching.

I asked a friend that works at the Toyota Corp office (Torr, Ca). His wife had a 91 T4r with the Tri Star (3rd gen) wheel and she had these T100 center caps on her car with the 3gen wheels on a 2nd gen T4R. I was going to buy these T100 enter caps but when I lifted the truck, I learned that I shoud have automatic or manual to prevent the front CV's from spinning in 2wd mode all the time, I switched the ADD out to Manuals and ended up not needing the T100 center caps. I guess all that research was not a waste if you guys can use the 411. I was told that since the truck is lifted, the CV boots don't like to spin all the time at the more radical angle.

I checked out T100 caps - even non-oem caps were $80 a pair!!! Soooo, I used a 1 3/4 hole saw to cut a nice clean hole in the front caps which clear the dust cover nicely, but the six bolts in the hub (surrounding the dust cap) still prevent the cap from snapping completely into place. I guess spacers are the next step. I was thinking 1/4". Never used them before. Any suggestions?

I gave you bad information and I'm very sorry about that . I assumed that cutting a hole would do the trick because it worked on mine. I also have auto hubs and I also used a wheel from a 3rd gen. I guess the cap on the wheel I used sticks out a bit further. Hope I didn't cause you to unneccesarily cut your caps.

Hey, I think your advice was good - it worked for you. I think spacers will do it, just never used them. Not sure what size, brand, the best place to get them, price, etc??? Are they a good idea? Anyone???

What you can do is change out the six acorn hub nuts for standard auto grade hex nuts. That should shave of about 1/4 of an inch. On my manuals I did that as it's OEM to run open hex huts on the 6 hub bolts. You will need 12 in all, It's worth a try, since youve gone this far.

Duh... why didn't I think of that? Took all of five minutes to change them out and the caps fit!
