Need help with 5 speed. How do I do it?

I have a 98 5 speed 3.4 and I will be towing my boat with it. The boat is an 18 foot fiberglass with a 150 hp Optimax. The boat weighs about 2500 lbs with trailer (guess).

My question is, do I have to adjust how I drive when I am towing compared to when I am not towing? What makes me nervous is reversing down the ramp to launch or recover and trying to keep the vehicle from going in the water with nobody in the vehicle.

When launching, and my vehicle is unoccupied on the steep grade should I put it in gear with the vehicle off along with the e brake? If so, what gear should I put it in?

Thanks in advance, you guys RAPE!!(???)

As far as launching and loading goes, I would put it in 4lo, in reverse, with the parking brake set and you shouldn't have any trouble. You'll figure out how to change your shift points accordingly, it's not much different than driving without a trailer though, braking will be the biggest difference.

I figured that, I just picked up the tundra brakes today, and they are going in in the morning. Now I have to wait for my tow package to arrive. I got a class 3 with harness and ball for 200 (free shipping) on ebay just a few minutes ago.

Iam glad I asked, I forgot about 4wd helping. I'm such a dumbass.

You should be good to go with the Tundra brakes added. Thats a pretty damn good deal for the tow package, keep an eye on your temp guage if you have any long hills to climb.

Good driving practice
If it is difficult to shift into reverse,
put the transmission in neutral, release
the clutch pedal momentarily,
and then try again.
When towing a trailer, in order to
maintain engine braking efficiency,
do not use the fifth gear.
