Need help with a Electrical problem

I have an electrical short of some kind and if anyone has experience with this issue, please let me know. I have a 99 SR5 with 251,000 miles.The battery was dead after sitting for a month. I put the trickle charger on it, got it running, drove it around, then parked it for the day. The next day, the battery was dead again. I recharged it for several hours and decided to check the alternator. While leaning across the fender and supporting my arm on the brushguard, I got a little shock while working with the battery terminal. My stepson has been using it while I've been overseas, so I'm not sure if he or any of friends did something to it. There is something draining the battery. I'm just not sure what it is or where to start looking.

You got shocked. While you were touching the battery terminal, you completed the circuit by touching the brush gard at the same time.

You should get the same sensation if you stuck a screw driver in a wall outlet.


Sounds like your battery is toast. Jump start it, drive to autozone and have them check your battery and if it is good, they can check your alternator.

If the battery does check out okay (kinda doubt it since its been drained a few times now) then you are going to need a digital volt meter to do an amp draw to narrow down your problem.
