Need help with amp for my navigation system

My 4Runner is NOT equipped with the JBL system. A few years ago, I installed an '05 Camry navigation system in my 4Runner. Since the navigation head unit does not have an internal amp, I had to install a small external amp, which was supplied with the Camry navigation system. The small amp was plug-n-play and powered the system just fine for me.

Anyway, I believe the amp is on the fritz and I need to replace it. Does anyone know where I can get a new amp that I can plug into the stock wiring harness?

If that's not possible, can someone give me the information needed to add an aftermarket amp to my current set up? Keep in mind that I'm an audio moron, so I have no idea what would be needed to wire an aftermarket amp to my current head unit.

BTW, I'd much rather just find another plug-n-play amp and be done with it. I'm not looking for more power or better sound, I just want my head unit working properly again.

Nobody has any idea about the stock amp?

I know little about car audio, but have been researching as of late. Been looking at amps and speakers to add to my factory non-JBL head unit. I don't want to switch head units as I like the clean, factory, sleeper look.

Thus, as I understand it, one must use an amp with "Speaker-level inputs" if using a factory head unit, which often lack the preamp outputs needed to install these.

Two I have been eyeing at Crutchfield.com are the Alpine V-Power and the JL Audio A4300. Both come in a 70-watt, 4-channel config, which would seem ideal for four 100-watt speakers. Both come highly recommended and can be had for somewhere around $300.

I've been wondering where exactly is the best place to mount such an amp -- beneath one of the front seats? On back side of rear seats? Somewhere else? Just don't know.

Not sure if this is helpful to you, but perhaps it's a start.

I sure do like those FJ wheels on your Runner. Love the wider stance they lend your ride.

Thanks for the info.... it's a start. At this point, I just want an amp that will work with the stock speakers and the navigation head unit.

The problem I'm experiencing comes and goes, so I'm still not 100% sure it's the amp that is the problem, but nothing else seems to make much sense, so I'm guessing the amp is the problem.

I would do that if I could, but I'd have to uninstall the amp to get a picture of it. Right now it's stuffed up under the dashboard, just to the left of the glovebox. If my memory is correct, the entire amp is about 4"x4", so it's pretty small.

Yes, it was definitely plug n' play, just as you described. Thanks for the link...I'll check it out.

Okay, it does look similar to that, but I'm only going from memory.

Where did your amps come from? Are you sure they'll fit my 4Runner? Do you have any specs on them?

How much are you asking?
 
$20 + shipping, and mine are guarenteed to work!

Mine came from various cars... Mostly 4runners! When we do deck installs we generally pull everything out and a lot of our customers say keep everything...

Toyota is known for using a lot of the same product in every vehicle. This one should work, it just has those brackets mounted on the side which can be taken off.

Okay, I'll probably take it. I just want to make sure that it's the same unit that I'm using now. Maybe I can peek up under my dash to get a look at my amp.
 
Hey, is there any way you can check on the power of your amp or amps? Maybe Toyota made analog amps with different ratings? If I'm going to replace my amp, maybe I should get one with a bit more juice!
