need help with fuel tank 85 4runner

so i recently bought a '85 4runner dlx efi im in Pittsburgh so its very hard to find used parts since 10 yr old trucks around here are rusted to hell, so im looking to see what other tanks would bolt up directly some 91 92 ex cab p/u are around second gen 4runners are around i only need a sender for fuel gauge but i know when i drop the tank id like to do sender pump etc and seal the tank before reinstalling, new gaskets... so if anyone has ran into this issue and can help in anyway id greatly appreciate it. have been a reader of this forum for years finally registered and now can post

Sorry wish I could help! But Craigslist can be helpful. Gotta be places around that sell parts and pieces. Go to Craigslist and to the Auto Parts section and just type 4runner. If you sort through them I bet ya find more then you ever wanted to find :)

I found a decent supplier of used parts in North Carolina ( I know that's far) but as an example. I am from Oregon. He was a pain to deal with but he came through on several parts I needed.

I don't think there's anything else that will bolt straight up besides a 1st gen 4Runner tank. The pickup tanks have a vastly different shape due to the lack of a rear seat, and I haven't directly compared the 2nd gen tank but I'm pretty sure it's different enough that it'd take some work too. The pics on Rockauto are generally reliable if you want a visual comparison.

Why are you looking for a junkyard gas tank? If I had to replace a thirty year old gas tank I'd replace it with new, not another 30 year old tank. :)
 
If you only need a sender, get a new one from rockauto. Can also get the pump there. I believe you can get a replacement tank from autozone if needed.
 
for all the work involved in removing the skid plate, disconnecting the filler/vent neck, etc, buy a new tank. any used tank will have the same issue - it will be over 20 years old.

car-part.com is a database of national junk yards, should be able to find a tank from the best side of the rockies there ...
greyhound might take a shipment like that
