Need help with my 84

I use my truck all the time and go to work in it everyday. It rained all yesterday. For some reason with all the wetness, I fired it up in the morning to find that it was idling at 2k RPMs and two of my check engine lights came on (brake and Charge). I can't even make it down the street now because the battery isn't being charged. I checked the belts and they are all tight...I figured one might be loose causing the alternator not to turn. All fuse boxes (one below by my feet and in the engine room) at least seem dry. What can this be? I think its more of a wet connection rather than the actual alternator being bad. Its something to do with the rain but I don't know what. High idle, 2 idiot lights (BRAKE and CHARGE)
Please help if you've been here.

I've been there and so have many others. The brake and charge light together indicate a bad alternator, it could be because of the wet weather I suppose, however I think it could just be a coincidence. Don't know about the 2k rpm idle though. Anyway I'd give it a day if the alternator is wet to dry off, if not replace it with a toyota remanufactured unit

Both lights being lit indicates an alternator problem (usually worn brushes).
You can replace them yourself if you're handy.

As suggested above, you may want to wait and see what happens when it gets dry, but it sounds like it's shot.

thanks for the help BUT.....

Thank you for the tips. I put in a new alternator but its still acting the same. The same two lights are on (BRAKE & CHARGE). The only way I can get going now(thankfully i live on a slight hill) is by a running jump. Any other ideas?

try checking the wiring harness? maybe theres a short or a severed cable leading to the alternator
