Need help with my new to me runner.

So soon after I got her the common check engine light with VSC off. Last night I went to start her and all power cut off as soon as I put the key in the ignition. Seemed like a loose power cord to the battery. Once I jiggled the cord, I got all power back. My issue is while driving home rpms dropped below 500 while idle at a stop light. Now she has a sluggish initial start this morning. Is this battery related? I will be going to get it tested today but I want some ingsight first. Also check engine light is now gone???

Sounds lke the ecu just needs some time to recalibrate it self. Mine does the same thing after disconnecting the battery. Drive it. It should sort itself out.

If agree. ECU is relearning a bit and idle should come back to normal soon enough. The sluggish start is likely because the battery wasn't getting charged properly due to a poor connection.

I think we are all getting ahead of ourselves here diagnosing your issues.

First, tighten the battery cables. If you are still have an intermittent issue, then you have a bad cable or lug or some other issue with power getting from the battery to the ECU and fuse block.

Next, pull your OBD code and see what it is. No reason to guess at it when you can have it read for free at most auto parts stores.

Low idle could be caused by the fact the ECU reset, but it normally takes more than an intermittent loss of power to make the ECU need to relearn the idle.

It could be a misfire, or emissions related... you'll never know until you fix the battery issue and pull the code.

Male sure battery cables are tight.

Mine stalled a few times recently at a stoplight after having the battery disconnected. After doing this a few times, it went back to normal and ran fine.

Pull the code. Could be any number of things within the ignition system

Update

So, drove it around today and it seems fine. Battery cables have been tightened. Also CEL light is still off.

What do you feel was the Problem?

I purchased an 07 SR5 2WD V6 in 2010 43,000 mi Certified with an Extended Warranty. Before the Ext Warranty expired I started getting the Xmas Tree Of Lights erratically VSC TRAC & TRAC OFF and Etc. I stopped by a small Tech’s Shop vs the drive to the Dealer. While he watched from the rear, he told me to step on/off the brake 4-5 times and to shift into gear 3-4 times. Afterwards He told me the Brake Switch could be getting bad but as long as it goes out it’s OK. Come back and he would replace it when it's bad.

I finally noticed getting into gear was getting erratic, the dash’s Tree of lights were on and no brake lights at the same time. I mentioned this to a friend and he pulled the Brake light switch and asked me to watch the brake lights while he pressed the switch on/off with his hand. It was erratic with a stiff spot in it. Before ordering a switch I noticed I never had the problem again. I wanted to feel the stiff spot and possibly put a drop of TV tuner spray in it to see if the stiffness would go away. He had put the switch in too tight with his hand that I could not rem it with my hand (as it was designed to twist and pull or push and twist to lock in.

The End! It has worked 2-3 months now. I did learn that If I c/n get into gear, there is an Over-Ride Button recessed in the console to allow shifting if a Break Light was bad.
