I intend on putting AMP Research power steps on my T4R eventually. My wife is altitude-challenged and the factory Trail steps coupled with the small lift are a little difficult for her. I don't like the proximity to the rocker panels because I can't get my whole foot on them without kicking the bodywork and usually just skip them getting in and out.
I have AMP Research power steps on my '15 Ram 2500 that has a leveling kit and 35" tires. The wife has no issues getting in/out of the truck and I like that I can actually put my whole foot on them and not just my toes. When they are "deployed" they are much lower than any other nerf bar, running board or step bar I've seen.
They're pretty expensive and a lot of folks who live in areas with rough winters have issues with road salt or anti-ice agents corroding the motors and hinges. I have not had any issues with the ones on my Ram and they've been installed for about 4 years now. Keeping them lubed and washing them off after cruddy weather is key.
They don't offer any rocker panel protection, but I don't believe the OEM boards do either. A good set of mud flaps can take care rock/mud/road debris on the rockers.
If you're not a hardcore offroader in need of significant rocker protection and can keep them maintained, I highly recommend them to solve your issue.
