Need help with strange mod.

Hey all, I just brought home a 2006 SR5 2wd V6 and love it so far!

However, there is this strange button installed left of the steering column and I can't determine its purpose.

It lights up red when pressed and I can't notice any change in the interior PR exterior. Also I don't see anything under the hood.

Any ideas?

Maybe the previous owner had aftermarket lights and that was the switch?

It's not a stock switch whatever it's for.

is it actually a switch or an alarm light so you know the alarm is armed etc

some people put in a blinking light to deter theft giving the illusion of a security system, i know a few on here have done that.

I would poke your head under the dash. Its probably a dealer/port installed aftermarket alarm system tucked under the dash. In which case I would spend some time and rip that junk out. Almost all of them are garbage, bargin bin units that WILL cause problems when they start to fail.

I am starting to see a lot of these units causing issues as these vehicles get older (including those vehicles we sold with Gaurdian units in the past.)

Thanks guys, I have poked around a bit and cant tell what it is.

It almost looks like part around the led was ripped off.

Oh well, she runs and drives great so hopefully nothing will come of it.

Maybe Ill see something when I install my new Automatic OBD2 sensor tonight.

That's what I assume every time I find one. That's not far from a fuse box and relay panel. The DRL mod is popular and fairly easy to do. See if it changes the daytime running lights?

So I just poked around down there and didnt see anything unusual.

Its pretty strange, Im going to try and contact the original owner and see what he says.
