I went to visit my relative yesterday & they lend me their car. It was a 1991 Toyota 4Runner. It's the 6 cylinders model.
Yesterday morning, before I turn the engine on, I looked at the engine oil dipstick, I noticed that there are a lot of oil inside the engine. Definitely way too much in there. I also noticed that the are a lot of smoke coming out from the exhaust. I'm assuming that the rings are bad but I figure I'm just gonna use it for a day.
Last night, when I was on my back to their place, on the highway I started noticing some burning smell getting inside the car. I also notice the car hesitates a bit but not much. As soon as I smell the burning smell, I tried to pull aside to see if anything wrong.
As I was changing lane to exit the highway, the engine just shut down right away. I see the RPM needle drop all to 0. Everything else works though. All lights are working. At first I thought I ran out of gas but I realized that I just fill up 1/2 tank before I enter the highway.
Once I got on the shoulder, I tried turning the engine back on but it just wouldn't come back on. I can hear it cranking.
I called a tow truck & tow the car back to their home. I know it is tough to describe a problem without seeing in person but any of you guys know what cause the engine to just died like that? Any input on this would be really appreciated. Thanks a lot guys
