i have a 2004 4runner. long story as short as possible
blew the head gasket at 154K, doing research here seems like i got a little farther then most.
no big deal. bought a remanufactured motor because i didnt want to deal with the vvt and timing junk.
motor swap was as easy and a pontiac v8 in a firdbird with headers. no big deals once you figure out what you are doing.
swap went great. fire the new motor up and everything is great. get 30 miles on it and pop a check engine light.
p12 intake timing over retarded on bank one.
checked my oil control valve and replaced cam position sensor. no fix. take it to my brother shop and let their master mechanic check it out.
he says the cam isnt timed properly. and vvt etc is all good.
call motor place, after a month fighting the send a transport and tow it 300+ miles , from cali bay area to LA somewhere. month goes by and one expired reg ticket because they parked it on the street my car comes back.
they put 1 mile on it says its fixed.
30 miles later same thing.
goes back to my brother shop and they check all wiring and everything again and says if its not motor then there has to be something wrong with the ecu. $250 for a used comp and 330 to reflash and program keys later at the local dealership i get the same code.
getting really really pissed off now. it is october 4th, i swaped the motor dec5th 2012. see its kinda getting tired of this.
i am going into the motor to verify cam timing. does anyone have a run down on how to do this.
my brother is getting me the all data printout but real world experience would be great.
