I am starting the chome removal process on my SR5. Thought I'd start with something easy like the chrome strip and log on the front grill. I have read several threads that describe how easy it is to remove this.

I have successfully removed the plastic shield that covers the fan area. I have succeeded in removing the plastic chrome oval Toyota emblem. I have be absolutly unable to remove the chrome strip!!!

Every write up says that this is a very, very simple task. I see the four clips. The two outer ones have one "arm" while the two inner ones have two "arms." It have moved the outer arms up and down and I have moved the inner arms together and apart but I cannot get the plastic chrome piece to budge.

What am I doing wrong? Please help. Thanks!:ybrick:

If I remember correctly there are also 2 screws that need to be removed. One on each end. I hope that helps some.

Thanks guys. I saw the two screws but none of the instructions I read mention them so I left them alone. Should be much easier now.

silversx,

I painted them flat black. Unfortunately, after painting them (they came out great) I left them outside to dry. When I came back a few hours later, I found that the wind had blown both pieces upside down. Now there are several pin hole spots where the chrome is showing.

Tomorrow I will sand down the parts and respray.

By the way, I used the Krylon ultra flat black that is part of Krylon's camoflauge series. It's made with Fusion paint.
