need helping finding out what gears it has

Hey guys so I blew my diff doing donuts lol so I found a complete diff at the junk yard buy not sure what size gears it has. Is there any way of checking maybe by a tag or the vin? I'm not even sure what gears i have right now it's a 4x4 2002 and the junkyard one is a 4x4 1997 both automatic.

If you're able to rotate the tires or ends of the differential you can use simple math count the number of rotation at the wheels compared to the number of times the pinion rotates..... IE 4.57 ratio would be one rotation of the tires to roughly 4 1/2 rotation of the Pinion yoke , 3.73 would be one complete tire rotation to three and three-quarter pinion yoke rotation ect.

You're gonna have to pull your diff anyways so pull it out and count the teeth.

/\ what he said. However its hard to distinguish between 4.1 turns and 4.3 turns so multipy everything by 10.

10 tire rotations = 41 driveshaft rotations... etc.

2002 4x4 (3.4 V6) automatic trans = 4.10 ratio

1997 4x4 (3.4 V6) automatic trans = 4.10 ratio

I know from reading your build that you have the 3.4 and considering that you have a 2002 I assume you are NOT e-locked. Assuming the '97 has the 3.4 as well and is NOT e-locked, both diffs should have the same ratio.

No need to count teeth, those are the standard ratios that Toyota put in each configuration for each year.

Check the tag in the driver door. A03 indicates a 4:10 ratio, A04 indicates a 4:30 (and will include the locker). Pull the diff though to be 100% sure.
