I've got a 99 Ltd with cat converter issues, again. Dealer - who is reputable and has serviced since new -- says it needs the cat converter assembly replaced for cost of $2300 (it's a Calif emissions model, to replace both inline converters apparently). Looking for a very good independent mechanic in Philadelphia area, Western suburbs, who can give me second opinion or better solution.
I tried one shop last year for same repair, got one aftermarket converter (probably the wrong part) and new O2 sensors (probably not Denso), but now I've got the P0420 code and not really sure what is going on. I plan on going back to the guy from last year to discuss, but want to get a better sense of the problem from a first rate shop that knows this truck well, if anyone can recommend. Thanks. Car has 143K miles, and if this is really a $2300 problem I'll probably end up trading or selling.
