Need Input - Good Deal?

Hi,

I am new here but am on numerous other forums for various things. Anyway, I am working on a deal for a 2004 V8 Limited that has every option including Navi with a remote start/alarm and Lojack. The vehicle has 20,000 miles, was driven by the dealerships owner's daughter. I am financing it and after loosing a decent amount of money on the 04 Grand Cherokee I owned that was just totalled I am only putting $1,000 down on it. The payments come out to $650 a month including, tax, tags and any other possible fees. Everything totaled this comes out to be $34,000 for the Limited. Is this a good deal with the mileage. BTW the vehicle is certified. If anyone has any input please post in here for me ASAP. Thanks.

Sounds high to me for 20,000 miles no matter who drove it.

I know who drove it doesn't matter but I wrote that just because.... I would at least think the vehicle was maintained well. When you do the math it comes out to $40,000 even with everything. A new Limited with the same features stickers for $44,6XX and not including the alarm, remote starter and lojack. I am financing this vehicle so also figure in the 3.99 APR as well as any dealer fees. My girlfriend says go for it because she said the 20k on the car means nothing because of Toyota's history. I have never owned a Toyota so I all I know is what I hear. The vehicle is in pristine condition as well.... Does any of this help?

My opinion is skewed in that I was never a big used vehicle person so take my statement with a grain of salt.

They are good vehicles and reliability is good. 20K miles is high for the amount of time they had to put them on, as in they drove the heck out of it and probably all in town. That's my only hangup on the deal. You have to ultimately decide.

If the shoe was on the other foot the dealer would penalize you for 20K a year. That's the only point I was trying to get across. They're good for 200K+ miles.

Thanks for your quick response as I plan on finalizing something tonight. I hear what you are saying about used vehicle but you pay so muck more for a new one just to say you drove it first or were the first owner. I never really was into used vehicles before this either but after seeing Cherokees just like the one I had go for $9,000 less with low mileage it changed my mind.

There is another 2004 4Runner SR5 there I am interested in but it’s not leather, not a V8 but it has 6k on it and would be easier on my pocket (obviously). It has a sunroof and looks to be mint. The price is muck more reasonable, the mileage is less and it has what I NEED and not WANT. Any comments on the V6 for towing? I have two jetskis which weigh around 1500 or so including the trailer. All the other stuff that the Limited comes with is just perks and I can always add leather myself. I would be happier with this because of the mileage. If the Limited had the same mileage as this it would much more tempting. Both are certified vehicles so my question now is are both engines just as reliable and will they have the same longevity?

Hello fellow Jerseyite!! It sounds a little high to me too. It is fully loaded with remote start and lo-jack, but the mileage is what is throwing me off. That is a lot of mileage for a vehicle of that age. Maybe you can get a good deal on a leftover 2004 new Limited? You are not going to find an SR5 or Sport with leather around this region. If you want leather, you will have to go to an aftermarket place to do it. Just out of curiosity, what dealer are you dealing with?

Yea it was high so I fought, fought and fought last night and got them down another $1500 on the price and another $1000 on my trade in. $32,000 plus more for my trade on a $45,XXX car didn't seem to bad for me even with the mileage because it had a few extras... I drove it to work today and loved it. I guess I listened to ToyotaDoodz and went for it because I didn't want any regrets later. So thanks for the welcome, thanks for the advice and now I can actually say I have a 4runner and learn stuff from this board. Thanks for everything. Oh yea it was James Toyota...

OK, now we need pics.

LOL... of course the day I pick it up its raining.... drives so nice though... I am happy... big difference over my old 04 Grand Cherokee, definitely a lot nicer then the RSX-S I traded in.... Now my biggest problem is do I sell my Wrangler... :sobbing:

Hey Cuzzinolaf, welcome to the forum. I think you got a great deal on your 4Runner. You saved over $12k on the car. That's over $1,000/month depreciation someone ELSE had to pay instead of you. You probably know that better than anyone since you took a loss on the total of your 2004 GC. Over here in Northen California, you can barely buy a Sport Edition for the price that you paid for your limited. And being certified used you still have a great warranty left if anything goes wrong with it. I usually always buy 1 year old cars in new condition with plenty of warranty left, it's one of the golden rules for the financially saavy. That being said, I couldn't wait for a used 4Runner to show up when I saw the 4th gen. models coming out! :bonk:
