Back in late February I had two cats replaced (bank 1&2) on my 2004 4Runner V6. As soon as a drove it off the lot I heard a clicking or clapping noise right where the cats connect to the manifold. I let it go for a week or so assuming it was due to new parts get acclimated (stupid I know). Anyway I took it back to my mechanic who I have used for over 20 years and I trust. I tried to replicate the sound for him but it only happens at higher RPM's and when it's below 50 degrees. The only clicking heard was the infamous engine click on a V6. So I let it go...
So I finally have gotten fed up with the noise. He's going to be installing a lift for me on Monday and also check for exhaust leaks. My question is...is it likely my manifold is cracked? And if it is, is it probable it occurred during the installation of the new cats? And am I screwed because of waited this long to officially address the issue, and will have a hard time proving it occurred back in february; therefore I'm going to have to cover the cost to fix it? Assuming of course it is cracked.
