Need input on 87 4runner

I am considering an older 4runner to use for daily driving (just every once in a while, few days every month) and hunting/fishing. My current 4runner is a little to nice to take to some of my hunting spots. I've got a 87 we use strictly as a farm vehicle, it hasn't been ran on the road in several years. It's not in the shape to do what I'm looking for (sometimes 100 mile hunting trips). So, I'm beginning to consider adding another 4runner. I've found one locally (well, 3 hours away). It's a 87, 4 cyl 5 speed, 150k original miles, great shape from the pics I've seen, and has 31x10.50 mud tires on aftermarket rims. The guy is asking $2000 OBO. Is this a good enough deal that I should be jumping on it? I'm thinking I should be able to sell and get my money back if it ends up not working. I don't want a money pit either, and that's really what I'm afraid of. Any input? Thanks

is this red one the one your looking at ? if it is it looks nice you should ck it over make sure the eng runs good and if it runs good then its deffinetly a good deal .

Yep, those are the pics the seller provided in the ad. I've e-mailed them requesting more, especially motor and interior.

SWEET DEAL! I paid a grand more for one a year older with same mileage. MIne was virginal tho, Top had never been off until I got it!

When was the Timing Chain last replaced?
Has the steering relay rod service campaign been performed?

And most important, frame rust, a Toyota trucks worst enemy.
They rust from inside out, so you don't see it until it's bad.

$2K is a bit high for my area, but if it's rust free and runs good, it may be worth it.

Forgot about the "back east rust" Don't have much issue with that in Oregon, No salt on the roads!:drummer:

Most I've looked at have had rust pretty bad on the fenders/rocker panels. This one looks to be super clean and rust free on the body. All I'm doing at this point is waiting on a response from the guy.

Rust over the wheel wells is common, not having it there is a good sign. But frame rust is more important.

I agree with fourwd1, the frame rust is your worst nightmare. Bring a hammer with you, tap it on the inside/outside of the frame starting from just before the bent goes up to the rear. Don't worry about the cross section (where the spare tire mounts), it's easy to cut out (if rusty) and weld in a piece provided you have good frame rails to weld to. My 86 was a great truck, ran forever. Good luck.
