Need mod/change opinions please!

Ok guys and gals, many of you here have seen the progression of my truck since day one. If you can't tell I like change and don't keep things the same for long. Currently I love the looks of my truck but need to mix it up some. First I'll show you guys some pics of how it sits now and where i want to possibly head with it.

What I'm wanting to do is ditch the light bar for a cleaner front end and go with a satoshi grill and the evo mod. The light bar has been great but like I said I need some change. I might be aiming for a look like this plus a satoshi grill.

Also I'm wanting to ditch the rola and go back to my Thule rack for better mpg and note usefulness for the recreational stuff i do with the truck, here is a pic of the rack setup I'm wanting to go back to.

Am I nuts or just wanting a cleaner look? Help me out here guys! All opinions welcome!

Zach

Edit: in the next few months I'll probably be ordering a DeMello bumper and stepping up to 285's. Just need to quit buying new watches, dslr cameras, and taking trips to Colorado to build the funds back up ha ha.

You're not crazy, I'm also a fan of change. On my last vehicle I had the Thule roof rack and fairing and ended up selling it and going to a factory roof rack for a cleaner look and better mpg since I rarely used it.
As far as the light bar is concerned, I like your plan and can appreciate the cleaner look you'll get. Good luck and post pics throughout the process.

I havent used the roof basket but once or twice, sure it was handy but i've never felt like I needed it if that makes sense. Plus i'm tired of not fitting in some parkikng garages etc, and i'll actually use the thule rack.

The lightbar has been fun while it lasted def cool for what it is but its time to change it up I think. I'll post pics with my new camera soon.

Thanks for the reply

I would take both the roof rack and light bar off. Nothing wrong with a cleaner look. Plus, if you want to put it back on for whatever reason, it won't cost anything. I took my defiant off a few times and put it back on for late night offroading trips or during the winter.

The satoshi grille mod is another cheap mod you can do in your spare time. I did mine over a weekend, put it on, took it off immediately. Hopefully you have a spare one laying around if you don't like the look once you're done.

If your future plans include bumper and bigger tires, i'd suggest looking into a new suspension to handle the extra weight and new upper control arms. If your linked build thread is up to date, the FJ suspension with spacers will have a real tough time handling the weight.

Darkie,

All good tips. She'll probably have a new look tomorrow then. All are easily reversible.

Oh I have an OME lift now with medium duty springs. It'll handle the bumper just fine.

Is that a modified defiant light bar?
I think removing the rack will be one of the biggest changes.
Also to clean up the front, up you can do the floating light mod with just a bracket holding on your off road lights.

It's actually a custom light bar, fully fabbed by myself and a buddy of mine.

I thought about doing the floating light mod as well, easy to do and looks great.

I really want to do the satoshi grill too. Looks like I'll have a full weekend.

I'll take pics of the progress for sure, thanks again guys.

Hey Zach, you could trade light bars with me? HAHAHA Just kidding, just got your FB message....

How about some sliders?

My understanding is that the floating light mod isn't that great, I spoke with a member a couple of weeks ago who said he was tired of his because the light wasn't very usable since it shakes so much.

You out on trading??? Ha ha.

I do need sliders too...... I'm open for all options!

How tough was your satoshi grill? It looks badass!

Did you fiberglass it and all that stuff?

Oh yeah, lots of fiberglass & "all that stuff" :thumb3:

Fiberglass is pretty cool, I had never worked with it before this project but it wasn't difficult.

Just remember with bondo and fiberglass: that stuff hardens up FAST, so don't mix too much at a time.

edit: and like Kevin I'd recommend getting a 2nd grille if you can, just in case you screw up or don't like it... or in my case take 8 months to complete it.

I have never worked with it either......that's what makes me nervous.

Maybe I should pick up another grill first.

So it looks like I'll be ditching the light bar and rack, going back to my Thule setup, doing the evo mod and the satoshi grill!

Zstampe's 4runner version 2.0 coming soon!!!!!

She had surgery...

Well thanks to you guys i did it! The 4Runner went under the knife and has come back with a new, cleaner look. Look for many pics in the future now that i'm shooting a DSLR camera too. The 4Runner is a good place to practice certain pics.
