Need new battery

Ok, so I've got my '05 4x4 Sport and its time for a new battery. I'd been having random failures where I needed to jump it (I keep a Xantrex pack in the back as I used to live up north and it was needed a LOT) and it seems it may be time. I did an oil change yesterday and in the 45 minutes I left it in neutral (navi was on - radio off, subamp was on and 150w inverter was on but with no draw) I had a dead battery. So I grabbed the battery tester there and threw it on only to get a readout of about 11.34V. So I ran through the usual tests for everything on it and also let it charge it for about an hour and in the end its telling me time to replace. Whether or not the tester told me that I'd have been shopping anyway as the battery shouldn't ever go that low below 12.5V or so anyway.

SO now that the background is laid out. Whats everyone recommend for replacement batteries? The OEM panasonic did the job however if I'm replacing it I'd like to replace with something better obviously. I do have quite a bit of electronics in the runner as most of us do so I figured I'd go with something with a higher capacity anyway.

Any recommendations?

I've had really good success with the yellow Everstart Maxx from Walmart. High CCA and an 84 mo warranty. Have one in my rockcrawling rig and in my tow vehicle.

Yep I use Everstart too. $ 76 for a size 24F. I use this size in my 4runner & Camry.

Absorbed glass matt (AGM) batteries are great stuff, especially for deep cycling and for rugged off road application. However, these are twice as expensive.

Conventional flooded acid batteries will do most fine and can last a long time if one doesn't discharge deeply. You may be able to remove the caps from your OE battery to check the levels. I check this once a year and equalize the cells using a brief overcharge.

Replaced my Panasonic with an Exide Orbital AGM today. She cranks way faster and has more life now, I highly recommend this battery.

I have a 2003 with 159,000 miles and still using the stock Panasonic battery. I would replace it with the same one if I could get one.
I talked to the dealer to confirm but Panasonic are only available in Japan.

You got that right. The stock Panasonic in my old 89 Maxima lasted 12 yrs or more until I killed it by leaving it in my garage with a door opened for days. The interior lights drained it dry.

I'm just coming to the realization now that I just replaced the stock battery in my 2001 with ~170,000km. Those Panasonic batteries are unreal! :thumb3:

The Sears battery is made by Odyssey! They are great batteries. The military uses osdyssey. I would def. check out the Sear Marine just for the plain fact is cost less but is the same as the Odyssey.

My 06 4runner left me stranded the other day with a dead panisonic battery. I went to the dealer yesterday and bought a Truestart 27 which is the bigger one. I just want to make sure I bought the right size. I know some carry the 24 and some the 27. Does anyone know?

Costco is hard to beat, cheap, more CCA's than stock, and there's nowhere better to warranty stuff.

the dealer battery I bought lasted almost a year

too much trouble at the time to do an exchange and did not want another of those anyway

went with NAPA
