Need new/rebuilt front calipers for 2007 V8 Limited - Suggestions?

Hi guys, I'm looking for a good source for rebuilt or new front calipers for my V8 Limited. Can you advise of a good source? These are the 4 piston "unpainted brembo appearing" calipers. I've seen a bunch of Chinese calipers I don't trust, so I hope you can point me in the right direction.

Alternatively, how hard is it to rebuild calipers ON the truck?

My problem is the driver's side caliper, bottom left piston will not fully retract, leaving me unable to put the new pads on the inboard side of the caliper. If any other info is needed, let me know, but currently, I do not know the outside diameter of my rotors.

I buy remanned calipers from Autozone. they have a 3 year warranty so if it happens again, all you have to do is go back in and swap them out.

Try Advics, I believe they are the toyota oem. or toyota Oem remans, or at the minimum centric 142 series, 142 series includes new pistons everything changed and painted.

Two different rotor sizes, but with the limited it should be the 338mm, just make sure.

I would go with Centric 14144228 and 14144227.

RockAuto.

Put 5th gen calipers on. They're a direct bolt on and have larger pistons for more braking power. I'll be putting them on mine when I get around to it.

Different rotors/pads or same? I already bought the pads.

The rotors and pads are the exact same between the 4th gen V8 and the 5th gen. Where you bought the pads from should be able to verify the part numbers, or even pull a set for a 5th gen off the shelf so you can visibly verify with the ones you have already purchased. I wish I have replaced mine so I had more concrete info, but once I do mine, I will write a thread to eliminate any confusion, since it seems like there is a lot regarding this topic.

i dont think that's correct. the pads are the same but i believe the rotros are thicker in the 5th gens.

+1 for RockAuto
+1 to paying attention to rotor size (SR5 = 319mm, Limited is 338mm, Sport I think it can be one or the other.)

If you go with Centric reman make sure you spend a little more to get a 142 series over the 141.

142 has anti-rust coating and new hardware like pistons. They reuse them on the 141 and its hit or miss, I got one with a lot of pitting in the piston.

Also a minor irritation is that the bleeders on the 141 were 8mm. I would be curious to the size of the 142. Not a big deal, but I found it easier to get a wrench over the tube when bleeding with a 10mm. I had clearance issues with 8mm on both the tire and on the clear bleed tube.

I have gone through about 4 front calipers over the years. Have never found "new" calipers that weren't from Toyota. If yall find em let me know. All have been reman and I dislike reman.

You're probably right, but I can't find any, or accurate information on the thickness. But either way, the 5th gen calipers will work, and if the rotors are actually thicker, they will work also.

Centric 142 series do indeed have 8mm bleeders. At least as far as Rock Auto was shipping 2 weeks ago. Ten mm bleeders is a double edge sword to me. Meaning yes it's easier to apply torque to loosen them but on the other hand it's also easier to over-tighten a larger nut. I've found no issue with the bleeder hose virus nut size and I don't over tighten things so I do prefer Toyota's 10mm bleeders (even if I can't use my cool-guy special purpose bleeder wrench on them) but not enough for it (8mm bleeders) to be an issue for me. They (142s) are as Centric calls them "fully loaded" which means they come with posi-quiet cememic pads installed. At about $75 each I think there a good buy especially if you can use the pads. I do mountain towing so I went with Centric Fleet Pads and their high carbon rotors. The combo performs well. But even without using the pads I thought the 142 series were a good buy since I wanted new pistons and something that at least promised a bit higher quality. I'll likely use the ceramic pads on my wife's GX470 if her calipers are Ok when it comes time.
However, if you are really price driven in your choice, don't forget the price of shipping plus the price of return shipping (about $39 total, I think) on the the cores. Rock Auto/Centric have a rather heavy core charge of $70 each on these calipers. Which made little sense to me given the rebuilds with pads were less than 10 bucks more.
The Centrics come with, I believe, a 60 day warranty while the cheaper Cardone's or such you get a Napa or such come with a lifetime warranty.
I hate using any warranty myself so I went with purported higher quality than the longer warranty.

It has been suggested in the 'big' thread to use 4th gen rotors in the rear, along with the 5th gen calipers due to the center bore being different.

Also, if you use rockauto's return shipping for the cores, its much cheaper, like $20 or less.

I'm a bit lost on the 141 vs 142 series, can someone dumb it down for me? I'm not always on the forums and may be a bit lost on lingo.

If I were to upsize to the 5th gen calipers, I would need the equivalent 338mm rotors, correct? (With same pads as Gen 4, so I'm good?)

Anyone willing to confirm the Rock Auto part numbers I'd need? (I'm not lazy, I just want to make sure I get the correct parts and you guys know your isht.)

Someone asked about "new" rotors - I found them on ebay and all so far seem to be sourced from China. Last thing I need is a crappy piece of Chinese cast pot steel calipers crack in half and leave me brake-less at 70mph with my kids in the backseat and coating the tires in brake fluid!

Lets not forget that if you change the calipers. you will need size 17 tires for it to work. Use the google search function on the top right corner. that is your friend Mr. Lazy. :)

spend some time reading through this thread, there's more than enough information to point you to the right parts and prices:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/196236-5th-gen-calipers.html

I'd personally buy everything from rockauto, but thats just me. Definitely stay away from ebay rotors/brakes.

The difference between the 141 and the 142 calipers is that when both are re-built the 142 calipers get brand new pistons, whereas the 141 get re-used pistons, even though the re-used pistons are inspected they are still used and aren't as good as new ones, one of the members here works for Centric and he recommends the 142 because of the new pistons and the peace of mind that the new pistons are less prone to seizing again in a reasonable time frame, any and all of the calipers for our 4Runners new or re-built will most likely have a seized piston at some point so anything you can do to prolong the time frame is a good thing.

I assume you mean I'd need to have at least 17" diameter rims, right? Not downsize from my OEM 18's to 17's for some reason?

Thanks again everyone, I'm ordering from Rock Auto right now. I'm going with the following parts (sticking with Gen 4 parts) for anyone that checks this thread.
