Need New Shocks

Hi Guys,
I have a 2003 Sport Edition that needs new shocks. I have a 3/2 cornfed lift and was wondering if I could get some heavy duty shocks. I go 4 wheeling a lot and would like to get some shocks that can put up with the abuse. I read a little into this and has seen that I can only get OEM shocks. If anyone knows what I can do or what I can get that will help me I would really appreciate it.

My first question is do you have XREAS on the truck and do you want to go HD replacements or are you willing to go to a full suspension?

If you have the XREAS suspension you will have to remove the lines if going to either HD replacements or to a full suspension.

You could go with Bilstein's or OME-Old Man Emu for a good HD replacement.They can be had for as low as $300-$400 all the way up to $700-$800 with replacement rear springs depending where you buy.

If you are willing to spend some coin,a full suspension with adjustable coilovers are widely available.Benefit of a full suspension over a spacer lift is ride quality and being able to adjust the front end ride height.

Just to warn you,full suspensions are not going to be cheap if you decide to go that route.They will range from $1,000-$2,000 depending on the setup.

Looks like you are at the point of dumping X-REAS all together and going with aftermarker shocks and coils! I'm still trying to decide if I like the ride with X-REAS... I'm either going to go with a DS 2.5/1.5, CF 3/2, or full OME set-up and ditch the X-REAS. It's a tough decision right now, but I do know that I loved the OME on my Gen3!

At the install there will be some minor component removal. The XREAS plumbing and accumulator are then tossed.What does it detail on ditching the XREAS suspension?

If money's tight shop for 4 Bilsteins IMHO. They'll do what you want at fair price.

You can use any shocks you want. "Ditching" XREAS consists of removing the shocks and disconnecting the lines. You can remove the lines or leave them. It's no big deal. I'd remove them if it were me just because they will never be used again. Bilstein shocks are pretty popular.

It's not hard but can be messy with the oil in the system that will eventually leak out during removal.

You can remove the XREAS entirely if you never plan on using it again.

if your closing in on 70k miles or more then dump the xreas as it will fail soon.

68k on it now! Maybe that will help my make my decision... OME, Toytec Ultimate 3" lift, Icon, etc, etc... and I thought that I was settled on the Daystar 2.5/1.5. Decisions, decisions!!

i would like to recommend OW 2.0 or 2.5 full kit. they are probably the best kits out there
