I just bought a 99 4runner (4wd V6) to replace my 98 Tacoma. My problem is that i would like to run the tires and wheels from my Tacoma on my 4runner along with a three inch lift. The wheels on my Taco are 15" Mickey Thompsons with brand new 32" BFG ATs but they won't fit over the calipers on the 4runner. I have considered swapping rotors and calipers from the Taco to the 4runner to make them fit. Do ya'll think the smaller rotors will work on the 4runner?

You can put the smaller brakes on the 4runner, in fact the base models came with 15" rims originally but most people bought the bigger wheel and tire package. Obviously you really like your Mickey's, but do you like them enough to noticeably reduce the braking performance of your rig?

Why would want to down grade your brakes for some wheels? Yes, it will work but think about it. The 4runner already suck in the brake department as is. If anything I would buy new wheels.

If it were me I would rather buy new wheels than downgrade the already inadequate brakes, but as posted before many base 4Runners have smaller brakes and 15" wheels so I don't really think it would be a huge safety precaution. I would get good rotors and pads though.

I strongly recommend against this swap. The Tacoma doesn't weigh as much as the 4Runner and it won't take you long to warp the rotors.
When I first bought my 4Runner it had the stock rotors (which matched the Tacoma's) and they were warped pretty bad. The first time I came down I-70 out of the moutains (I live in Denver) touching the brakes caused the steering wheel to vibrate nearly out of my hands. I upsized my rotors and bought a slotted/dimpled set. After 2 years I'm starting to feel the old warping again. I'm going to see about just having them turned and hopefully I won't have to buy a new set again.
