Need Personal Opinion on Tires

Ok I have been lurking on this forum the past year and some and I am finally in the need of some new tires. Well thanks to all of you guys I am wanting to add a little lift and add some meat to the tires. I am going to go with the Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacers, but the only problem I am still having is what tires to get...:dammit:

I have seen everyones writeups about certain tires but I still cant come up with the right one so I figured maybe I could narrow down to yall want I want in a tire and what would be the best route for me to go with.

My driving consist of 98% city driving and rarely do I take it offroad since I live in New Orleans, but I want to still have the capability to do some light trailing if I get the chance. I want a tire that will not affect the ride quality of my T4R but still give a more aggressive tread than a normal passenger tire.

So if anyone could have a good suggestion in which tire to get please feel free to chime in!

Also Im looking to run a 265/70/17

Revo 2 will probably be your best bet. They are pricey but alot of people seem to be more than willing to cough up the money for them. If you want something more agressive like a true all terrain you can't go wrong with Nitto Terra Grappler. If they offered the Nitto in the size I wanted I would have been all over them.

I decided on a 255/75/17 because of no mpg loss and a little taller to fill out my 2.5/1.5 lift. Hankook Dynapro was my decision based on reviews I have read here and other places online.
 
I advise looking into the 255/75/17's, I love mine. As mentioned above, no mpg loss (with 265/70/17's you will see .5-1mpg loss). I also second the Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10's. Great tire, smooth, quite, and cheap compared to others in the same category. Check the link in my sig for pics and more info on the tires.
 
I used to have the Revos (yes guys, my first post in over a year!), but after abotu 30K miles they wore down quickly and got very sxlippery in the wet. I decided to go with Michelin LTX's in 265/70-17 size. I love them! I have now had them for about 30K miles, and they still look like new. When we had the 50+ inches of snow down here in VA last Feb I was able to claw through on unpaved roads to get where I had to go (I am a cop and staying home was NOT an option). I was pulling people out of ditches with no issues either. I have gone offroading with them too aired down to 20psi with no issues. I cant rec'd these tires enough. I drive about 99% on the pavement and they have been the best tire yet. Do they have the grip that the Revos had on pavement--no. Is it really that noticable--no. The Revos made my 4runner feel like a BMW 3 series, but I dont need to spend more money on tires that wear out much quicker. I have heard people gettign over 100K miles on these tires, and my buddy just passed 80K with them, and they still look new!!!:trophy:

BTW-my mpg went up when I got these on my truck over the Revos by about 2 mpg.
 
I've got about 50k on my Michelin CrossTerrains, and I'll replace them this fall. I really like the CrossTerrains -- quiet, comfortable, track well. The work great on sand aired down to 15 psi. But they are not an aggressive tire. Expensive, too.

Michelin makes an awesome all around tire. I have the Cross Terrains that I replaced when I got my 4Runner. They are extremely quiet, offer great wet and dry traction and the tread life is unbelieveable. I understand that the CT's are discontinued. They have new designs out.

My tires totally changed the ride of my truck.
 
Didn't like the Michelin LTX M&S. Yes, they last long but to me, were no better than a decent passenger car tire. They had bad grip on gravel and it was worse on snow. I liked the Revos for about 15K. I'm geting either the Hankook Dynapro ATMs or the Toyo Open Country ATs.
 
Any of the above choices are great. I think the best handling and tread durability will be for sure the Michelin's. They make the best highway handling tires for sure LTX or MS/2.

My personal choice were Toyo Open Country AT's, great tire, good price. They do what I needed, great in sand, gravel, and snow/slush. Plus have great highway manners.

I have the exact lift you are looking at with the all-pro wheel spacers. (they are hub and rim centric and less than spidertrax) I went with the 255/75R17 tire because of the price. I went with Goodyear Silent Armors. They are very quiet on the road, worked well when I tow my 21ft boat and are rated for severe weather. On top of all this, they come with a 50K warranty. To boot, they look pretty nifty. At $129 per tire, I think it's a smoking deal!!

I had the LTX M&S and yes they sucked in the show. The newer LTX M&T2 is a MUCH better tire and has the best rating out of the top tires, including the Revo2. Only the Silent Armor is rated a LITTLE higher in the snow (Snow only). I don't think the OP has to be worrying about the snowflake.

The LTX A/T are nowhere near as good as the LTX M/S2.

yeah, that's what I read as well. My AT choice would be BFG AT KO's. Best looking tire out there IMO. But I have no use for them besides looks. And I refuse to take the hit on additional gas consumption and unsprung+overall weight. Same size LTX M/S2 weigh 13lbs/tire less than the BFG KO's (265/65/18). That's 65lbs add on TOTAL !!

I've had the KOs (Long time ago, may have been updated) and they where the best for off-road and lasted but they were not very good on the highway or in the snow/ice. The best tire on/off road and towing tire I had, was the H rated LT Revo. From the reviews the Revo2 is a little better highway tire. The best snow/ice tire I had was the Wrangler Silent Armor (I got a set for a great price). I took off a set of brand new (Free) Dunflops and gave them away. Yah Thai, I ended up with a snowflake! Great (Best I ever had) in the snow/ice, pretty good off-road but not as good towing or on the highway, at speed.

I have a GX on order and it will come with Bridgestones (HT) or Michelins (Latitude Tour, good tire). If it comes with Bridgestones I will replace them with the LTX M/S2s since 95% of my driving is pavement (With a month a year of towing, mostly highway) and 5% light off-roading. The LTX M/S2 has such good ratings, in every aspect, I personally think it is a tire worth trying.

M1911 I called Michelin directly and was told that CrossTerrains are discontinued and replaced by Latitude Tour. Anything that you find in stores (including Tirerack and DiscountTire) is leftover. No new shipments.

So if you want to buy another set, better do it soon, before they run out.

No mentions of the Destination A/T's. They would be another good choice.

I like all of the other suggestions and I would also recommend the 255/75/17 size.
 
kdub627 In 265/70/17 I would seriously consider Nitto Terra Grappler. It's and aggressive looking tire with good on-road manners and is great off-road. It is also priced right.

Revo 2 is an excellent tire, but expensive. Keep in mind, that if you are going with a size other than stock, you will need to replace all 5 tires. It does become an expensive proposition.

Like M1911 I had Michelin CTs on my truck and they were excellent. Don't know anything about the CT's replacement. But Michelin has a good reputation, and and expensive one at that.

As CJ3Flyr and ARK_SWAMP_RIDER mentioned, consider going up to 255/75/17. I recently bought and installed Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors and could not be happier. My truck sits taller, the ride is comfortable, they look aggressive, and they were priced right at $115 delivered to shop (install and balance separate).

Whatever decision you make you will have to live with the consequences of it for the next 50000 miles, so good luck...
 
if i had the money i would go with the Pirelli Scorpion ATR not sure if they make them in your size but they seem to be awesome.
