Need some advice on a 92 4Runner

Hi

I'm 19 and looking to get a first car, and could use the advice of some of you folks.
There is a 4Runner down the street that is being advertised for sale. I'd like to know your thoughts on it.
It's a 1992 V-6 Automatic Transmission. The fellow said that he had a new engine and transmission put into it. The 4Runner has 212K miles on it but the new Transmission and Engine only have 62k miles on them. It has a CD player (not stock) power windows, power locks, spotless interior, spotless/dent free exterior. It looks like it could use some new tires though.
He is asking 4200 for it. Is this a good price/steal? Are there any questions I should ask/things I should find out?

Thanks

man when I was 19 I wasnt looking for a truck...I was too busy concentrating on girls.

Usually on a 92, the body goes before the motor - not the other way around.

Ask for any papers that he has for the motor, or any recent work done to the vehicle.

Check the floors for any holes or rust.

Check that all the windows especially the rear, that it goes down and up smoothly. Also, check the drip rails by the rear tailgate as that area tends to rust quickly.

Check to see the 4x4 engages and dis-engages.

In Toronto, most 19 year olds are looking to buy Hondaa and Acuras.....good to see you're ahead of the game

Well, I wouldn't mind having something like a Civic, but I think that they cost just as much as a comparable 4Runner used, they don't hold as much/many people, so that's why I'm looking at a 4R, and lots of other reasons besides.

THanks for your information/tips.
