Need some help, rear shock not coming off.

Its freaking 90 degrees and I've about had it. I cannot get the rear shock to come off, is there any secrets to this? I've taken off the left panhard bolt, also the swaybar and gotten the left side spring out. The right side is giving me hell and there is NO way I'm going to be able to get the springs in without taking the shocks off the bottom mount. Any tips on doing so is appreciated.

Are you having trouble unbolting the shock? Soak it with some PB Blaster and try again in 20 min.

Bolt came off fine. Its getting it to come off the mount so I can the axle to droop lower.

Are you talking about trying to get it out of the seat in the top? If so, drill a hole through the outer casing that's wide enough for a screwdriver. Insert screwdriver and twist. This is assuming you don't need to use them again.

Sounds to me like he's trying to get the bottom of the shock out of the LOWER mount (the one on the axle housing). Right? Have you tried a hammer yet?

Take a pry bar and wedge it behind the shock, between the shock and the axle and pry.

FYI, there's a washer under the bolt, and rubber bushings under that. Perhaps the washer has rusted onto the shaft?

Take some pics of it. It shouldn't be THAT stuck, but if you are just pulling with your hands, then yeah it might need a little more oomph.

Got it done last night guys, thanks for your help. I have to admit that I had a lapse in judgement, maybe it was the heat + the hound dog hounding like crazy next door. When I read "take off the lower shock mount bolt" I interpreted it as taking the shock off the lower mount and leaving on the upper mount still, remember I was only replacing springs. I tried for a good hour to do this. Then I came in, got a cold drink, and then I realized my mistake....... I was just suppose to take the lower bolt off and let it hang and move around on the bushing, felt pretty stupid. All in all when it comes time for a real lift I'll be doing it myself and I'll be confident in doing so. On a good note the 99 coils Pittbullresucer sold me netted me my inch of lift I so desperately needed.:trophy:

if your replacing it then just hook up a sawzaw and have some fun. thats what i did!!

As a rule of thumb, I only work on automobiles, when it is not necessary to get them running, between 40 and 85 degrees. Too cold, and the tools stick to ya. Too hot, and one's means to logically think erodes quickly.

I have a neighbor who lets their little 2+ year old girl just walk around unsupervised in other neighbor's yards including mine. Once my car was on low jack stands and I saw her not 10 yards away from it. But then she moved away to chase a cat. A little responsibility please parents.
