Need to get behind stereo in my 2004

Hi everyone. I'm new to these boards, so I hope nobody minds an immediate post so I can get going on a small project.

I want to play an MP3 player through my JBL Synthesis 6-cd in-dash changer in my 2004 4Runner. I'm thinking about using a Blitzsafe aux-input converter.

Are there radio-removal instructions anywhere on the Web, or does anybody here have any kind of step-by-step advice to guide me in this? I admit, it makes me a bit nervous to get into something like this in a brand-new car, but it can't be THAT tough, right? (I hope.)

And most folks are going with the PIE aux in now... You don't lose the RSA then...

I've been doing some more looking and found some good panel-removal directions. And I've read about PIE vs. Blitzsafe.

PIE sounds good because the line-level volume is higher, but many people have written about problems with the converter cutting out now and then. Is this your experience, too?

I wonder if this will continue for the life of the adapter, or if it will sort of ``settle'' in after some time.

Mine seems to be OK...

The PIE issues appear to be random...

The install appears daunting, but once you do it, it's a piece of cake...

Yep, that's the one I found. I'll use it when I can persuade my wife that installing this adapter is actually a very good idea.

By the way, I'm interested in hearing how people mounted the PIE or Blitzsafe hardware. Does it screw into the firewall, or does it use double-sided tape? I imagine this might become self-evident once I get started.

I just set it vertically against the back of the inner dash, plugged everything in, then slid the radio back into place (no tape, screws, etc). The wiring/harnesses will squeeze between the PIE and the HU so it won't move around.

Me too. Just stuffed the PIE back there. I have had ZERO problems with cutting out (or anything else) since installing my PIE exactly 2 weeks ago.

OK,OK... Placed it gently in the small space available...:

This may sound a little silly, but when I installed the PIE adaptor, I first wrapped it in a little foam and shoved it into the small space on the right hand side (behind the hazard switch). I am very particular about hearing various rattles and I figured that if the tape came loose, I didn't want to have to take the entire dash apart to remount it. Yeah, yeah, I know. That IS rather anal....
