Need to replace my driver's seat?

First, I have a 2005 4runner with 49k on it and its been cared for lovingly.

I started hearing a creaking noise in my drivers seat a few weeks ago, and finally took it in to get looked at. The maintenance folks say there are some pins that attach the track to the chair which are starting to wear, causing the chair to rock slightly. The folks at the stealership say that option one is to replace the track and put the original chair on it ($1,000), or to fully replace the entire chair ($2,500). I find it a bit unreasonable that such a repair is necessary and further that it costs so much to do. Has anyone had this problem in the past? Should I try to call Toyota directly and see if they are willing to help? The stealership says they have never seen this kind of a problem, but rather they see the track having been binded or otherwise messed up.

Thanks for the help.

well on since a new car, i bet the seat is fine, padding and covering, why not just take it apart and look at it, then bring the broken parts into toyota and have them replaced.... and i bet the new parts will only cost like 200 at most

i have the same problem. i have a 2006 4 runner. it hasn't become a pain, yet.

but it appears i might have to have mine replaced too

Re: seat pins

look at my post regarding the pins, on the link that Uneek posted above.

Apparently there is a tsb that says to cut them down.

Does this issue affect power seats as well? I currently own an 06 that I have had for three years and no issue yet

I had a 2004 with manual seats and had the same issue as described by many on the forum. In my case it was a warranty repair and the dealer just replaced the seat frame which was $250.00. The dealer did not actually do the work they sub-contracted to an auto upholstery shop.

I would suggest getting the part from Toyota and then taking the parts to an auto upholstery shop.

Does anyone have the actual service bulletin that they can share? I am getting the screw job from the "field technical rep" who has refused to assist me. My only option I guess is to call the 1-800 number again and complain some more. Though, I have heard that that only gets you a response similar to the field rep, but from a regional person. Any thoughts? Where are these mysterious pins anyway?
