So after spending the last two weekends wrenching on my wife's 4th gen...

...including the following:

-Mounting 5th gen Trail wheels

-Having the rear bumper replaced at the body shop due to her being rear ended last month

-Painting running boards black

-Painting roof rails black

-Mounting Yakima racks

-Troubleshooting and replacing faulty O2 sensor

-Replacing serpentine belt

-Brake job, which started as new rotors and pads, but evolved into needing new front calipers as her 165k 2003 had the infamous seized pistons

Finally wrap everything up and head to the local brewery to get a beer, when I backed over a storm drain, and the concrete cover flipped up and into the bumper, scratching the bumper to hell and denting/pushing in the side panel sheet metal. JUST A FEW WEEKS AFTER IT WAS REPLACED!

That's almost exactly what mine looked like when I got it. I wonder if the PO flipped a concrete storm drain...

My dad pounded that panel out from the inside and you'd never know anything happened. The bumper scratches remain though.

How did you access the inside of that panel? From behind the interior panels?

man that really blows... Just go back to the shop you had it fix.. ask for a quote tax out of pocket. Im sure they can pop the panel back out and sand and blend the bumper for you...

I had a similar.. My bumper on my TL was swiped. I got it replaced. My wife backed up and hit a honda fit. I was there and we have a backup camera.. I guess you have to train your eye to trust it.. Its her car now and we still never got it repaired. The honda fit was in worse shape. I was looking for my insurance papers and the guy thought I did not have insurance. He insisted for 300 bucks.. I gladly paid. :bash:

Perfect opportunity to justify a CBI rear or the like...

After all, you're already going to have to spend around $100 to fix that, a whole new bumper would only be like....$2300 more?

We must've learned arithmetic at the same school

Let me know if you want to sell the drivers bumper extension:eyebrows:

I feel your pain. Bought my T4R on a Thursday, went to visit the family on a Friday and had a couple of drinks. My sober designated driver reversed out of the parking spot and smashed the rear bumper...into a wall, in a brightly lit parking garage. Argh...
