Need to vent..

It varies based on your driving style but on a road trip, I can get a steady 22MPG. While commuting, I get a steady 17-18mpg @ 5,000' - 7000' elevation. Do keep in mind that I'm full time 4x4, so at least 1-2mpg hit.

Damn, my lie-o-meter doesn't even get me close to that!

:dancin:

I thought about getting a Gen 5 today. Went by the dealer today to put my name on the backorder list for a dashboard via the warranty enhancement program. Sat in a nice Limited Gen 5, although I would want the TRD Pro. The seats actually seem SMALLER! So there goes that idea. The seats in my '03 are small enough already. The sales agent was looking at my truck and asking about it. Even he said I should keep it! Barely broken in with 150k on it.

Anyway sorry to ramble...I was posting to say that I have the V8 and love it. Wouldn't be happy with the V6. My gas mileage is not great but I don't care, especially when I can blow by people going uphill.

Don"t give up your search! I just got plain lucky finding mine.

We found our 4runner on autotrader at a vw dealer and after looking for about a month wendidnt let it out of our sight until we drove it home.

My sister just picked up an 04 sport with 107k and had the dealer replace the tires and cv boot (northern cal) they are out there but everyone loves a 4runner so it comes down to if you see it and like it buy it and if its a dealer ask about an after market warranty they are worth the extra money mine paid for a head gasket repair..

"Everyone loves a 4Runner" accurate statement. Settling for a 4runner without too much knowledge and unknown problems will definitely cost you. Luckily I came across an 06 sr5 (not 4wd like I hoped, but very off-road capable) and it is a diamond in the rough. I snatched it right before someone else could and drove it off for 15k leased. It's loaded with all the right accessories and thankfully the first owner who built it did it right and never took it off-road-or to mud at least. Just gotta keep looking and you'll eventually find what you're looking for. I did

How did you guys all luck out with your vehicles? Every time I see a nice one pop up it's gone before I can get around to looking at it. My fall road trip in CO is fast approaching and it's looking more and more like I'll be tackling it with our current 2013 Mazda 3 instead..

Vision quest... car max has two nice ones on their site.

They are "car max certified"... whatever that means (I'm sure the car max site will tell you).

One of them is a "2007 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4" with 112K. It's in WI and they are asking $17.7K. The car max site will give you price for them transporting it to a location near you.

The other one is a "2008 Toyota 4Runner Limited V8 4x4" with 108K. It's located in Parker, CO, and they are asking $20K for it.

In fact, Carmax has 10 V6 4x4's for sale,

and 19 V6 2wd 4Runners for sale.

They will ship the car to a location near you for a reasonable fee, and you can set up a search on their site and subscribe to regular emails when they get a car that matches your criteria.

I doubt you'll get a car at below market price from CarMax, but you probably can find a good, clean car at a reasonable price.

Just a thought. Let me know if it helps.

This 2008 SR5 looks nice...

It's a V6 4x4 with 66K. They're asking $21K for it.

The car report shows that it started it's life in MD, and then moved down to AL. The car is for sale in GA.

Anyway... enough posting about CarMax cars... otherwise people are going to start to think that I work there. :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

The truth is, I've never even been to one of their lots, but I have driven by some. It seems like a nice operation to me.

Good luck!

-Phil

(Update: OOOps... that one's gone! But they still have 9 other V6 4x4's to choose from!)

Thanks a lot to everyone for your input. It looks like I may have found the one! I'm flying out Tuesday to get her looked at by a mechanic, and handing over the payment if all checks out. So stoked!

I happened to know someone at the dealership. Got notice as soon as my runner hit the lot. Scheduled an appointment, then proceeded with the purchase. I bought used, but still had the inside.
