Need Your Advice(Again)

So I want to put a new muffler on my 4runner. I just want a better sound. I was thinking Cherry Bomb Vortex. So I take my car to Mineke to have them give me a price. While it is being checked out I do some research online. There are two prices, like $64 for the smaller one and $70ish for the larger one. I'm pretty sure I need the large one. I have a '98 Limited 3.4.

They call back and quote me $214 dollars including tax. That is for muffler and labor. Is this quote correct? They said that it wasn't a direct bolt on. I knew that it probably woun't be, but it's not that hard to make it fit. All they have to do is cut about a half inch off one side of the pipe and weld it all up.

They also said that I have a pin size hole in my muffler. I'm not sure if I really do or they are just trying to sucker me in to buying the muffler. If I really do should I be concerned about this?

I've also heard that the Flowmaster 40 series sounds nice.

Which one is better?

Does anybody know what the cost is for a Flowmaster 40?

Anybody know what size muffler I really need?

What do you think a decent install price should be? Should I go to a smaller shop? Would they have lower prices?

I dont really know. I priced a 50 series for $115, but the 40 series someone gave me because they got straight pipes (No muffler). The local all-pro shop said they would install it for $50, but that is with the original pipes and without buying a new tip, which I probably will. I may even go dual out.

As for the bigger or smaller shops: I dont really think it would make much of a difference about price, but this comes from someone who lives in South Alabama, so there is no big shops. But if the places around here dont do a good job on exhaust, they dont do much business (with all the redneck boys around here).

Just go with the 40 series. It is the best sounding option IMO. They are all the same size I believe.

like shu in south alabama there isn't really any big shops in middle alabama so the price they quoted you around 214 sounds right. i think mine was all but 4 dollars cheaper. they will have to do welding to put it on. for the price i didn't think it was to bad as i used my graduation money for it so i had the cash laying around for whatever. on the other hand i did get all new piping and two 3 inch tips so keep that in mind.

if you dont want something loud though go with magnaflow. the flowmaster isnt the loudest but its not that quite. you will get noticed with the flowmaster which is what i wanted.

I called Mieneke back today and learned what happened. They broke it down into labor and parts. They said $83 for labor and $110 for the Vortex muffler. I can get the muffler for $70 shipped to my door so that knocks $40 off of the price.

Do you know what the best price for the Flowmaster 40 series is? Which size fits the 1998 4runner Limited 3.4L? I think it's 2.25" center in and offset out.

Are either one of the two reversible?
