Need your opinion!

I'm doing the FJ coil swap and keeping my XREAS, but can't decide which spacer set-up to buy...

> 2" front lift with 1" rear lift

I'm leaning toward the 1" front because of alignment and CV joint concerns and I dont' want my tires to look too small. On the hand, I definitely want my lift to be noticeable and I want to make sure that I have enough room for my tires with wheel spacers, so the 2/1 seems better. I definitely have to get wheel spacers... I love the look!

Not sure what your going for....but if you do want it to be noticeable then I would consider just going with a 3/2 lift instead. Trust me, after you get that 2/1 in you will be wishing you went higher (I know I did). Or meet somewhere in the middle and get the daystar 2.5/1.5 Click the link in my sig if you want to see what that would look like, with spacers too.

Currently I have the FJ springs and shocks. with the 1"net Toytec. I like the look with my 265/65 AT's. However I feel the rear needs to be slightly and i mean slightly higher. Actually thinking about adding a 1/4" toytec which yields 1/2" lift to the front and adding a 1" to the rear. Then buying some 265/70's. I also have wheel adapters.

To me, and my own opinion, the 2.5/1.5 sometimes looks a little high for my needs. I think the 1.5 front and 1" rear would look really good with the FJ susp. Just some ideas running through my head.

With current measurements my rear sits 3/4" higher than front.. When adding 265/70 I want to get everything slightly higher. With the setup I'm looking at above the rear will be 1.25" higher. Thats my :beer: thoughts right now lol

Do you like trimming?

If you want wheel spacers and don't, you may as well get the 2/1. I have Bilstein 5100s set to .85" lift and FJ springs and my 265/70s scrub a lot because of the wheel spacers. I had to remove the front mud flaps altogether, push the fender liner forward, and trim a small triangle from the back of the front fender flares.

If you don't mind the trimming then I think 1" would look better. IMO small lift, big tires looks best, and typically it also handles the best because of the lower center of gravity.

edit: btw, it's definitely obvious my 4runner, even with just .85+FJ, is lifted. I get comments about it all the time.

If your not planning on doing a full suspension swap later, than I think the coils and the 2/1 would be great...But don't say I didn't warn you about wanting to go higher after it's all said and done

Based on the numbers I've seen, expect ~1" (or just a little under) front and ~.25" rear from the FJ springs on your v6 4x4. This does make a difference, and you'll need to plan your spacer size accordingly.
If you want level, I advise the Toytec 1/4" spacer (yielding 1/2" lift, so 1.5" total). Any more will leave you nose high. If you do the 2/1 lift, I'm afraid you may also be pushing going to high in the front compared to the rear (fender gap will be very close, but running boards & roof rack may be higher in the front than rear). It's hard to say because everyone is getting different numbers from the springs, but what I posted above is an average from several members.

This is a great setup that should provide ~ 2.75" front and 1.75" rear, that's gonna be very level (slight rake left). It's a little more than what you're looking for, but that's my suggestion. I went with the leveling kit, and now I really want to go bigger. Would have been much easier to do it bigger the first time around.

I found a set of 1" wheel spacers that I think I'm going to try with this set-up.

OK... I'm driving myself crazy trying to decide on what size spacers to add to my FJ coils!

I definitely want a little additional lift over what I will get from the FJ coils and I definitely don't want the "nose-up" look. I prefer just a touch of rake... rear slightly higher.

After hours of comparing pictures, I think that I've decided on adding a 1" front and a 1.5" rear spacer. This is what "euy" did with his, but it's difficult to compare with all of the variables in play... 2WD, 4WD, V8, V6, and it seems that there is a bit of variation in the FJ coils themselves.

Given that I have a V6 4WD and my FJ coils are just about new (895 miles), I would expect to get just about the maximum lift from them... ~1" front and ~0.5" rear. Adding the 1"/1.5" lift from spacers should net me around 2" front and 2" rear lift which would keep the rake while keeping the nerf bars about level.

What do you think? Am I missing anything?

EDIT: Do I shop for FJ or 4Runner spacers? I'm finding different part numbers everywhere I look.

I thought that I had things figured out in the previous post, but then I found this in the "Lift and Tire central" thread. It's "mtnbiker" and he is using FJ coils plus a Toytec 2" front spacer and a Toytec 1.5" rear spacer. I wouldn't have expected the stance with those pieces, but it looks great!

I think that this just goes to show the variability in this FJ coil swap... maybe? :shrug:

My problem now is that I can't even find some of these spacers that people mention!

mtnbiker... if you're out there, would you mind sharing the part numbers of your suspension spacers?

I gotta get this baby lifted soon!

Numbers from the FJ springs are fairly close from one vehicle to another, assuming they are identical setups. If you compare a 4wd v8 to a 2wd v8, the 2wd will get nearly twice as much lift as the 4wd. Same goes for a v8 vs a v6, the v6 gains more lift from them. This is also something you need to pay attention to when looking at pics. If mtnbiker's is a v8 4x4 and yours is a v6 4x4, you're front will end up another 1/2" higher which would probably be too high. Once you take a look at these two things, numbers will start matching up much more closely (within 1/4").

Thanks ARK! I did get in touch with "mtnbiker" and he says that the FJ coils accounted for just about 3/4" of the total lift... 2.75" up front and 2.25" out back... perfect! He's also a V6 4WD so I should see similar results. Now I just need to figure out where to buy them.

Then, it's on to wheel spacers... All Pro or Spridertrax... hmmm.

By any chance did you buy those FJ springs off Craigslist? If so I believe they are 2010 FJ springs. In that case you may have to tweet them a bit.

Just being nosy as I also bought some stock FJ spring on CL but they were 07.

Where are you located in Denver? I plan on putting on my FJ springs and Toytec front spacer with Spidertraxx spacers on Saturday.

I did get them off of CL and they are from a 2010 FJ, but I'm only planning to use the coils. From what I've read, the lower mounting point on the '10 shocks has to be modified to work on a 4Runner. I haven't heard anything about the coils being different. There's at least one guy on here that has already installed the '10 FJ coils.

All I know is that the shocks require modification to fit. From what I remember, the 2010 springs are also different than the previous years. What I don't know is if they will still be a direct swap. I can't remember anyone swapping just the 2010 springs. I'll have to do some digging to see if I can find the posts I'm thinking of, maybe there's more info there that'll be helpful.

"leftyguns21" swapped the 2010 coils onto his XREAS components... he made no mention of issues with the coils and loves the ride.

I'm remaining positive at this point! I just need to figure out which rear spacers to get... I've seen two different styles of 1.5" poly spacers and some very different prices.
