I have wheels, tires, would need to get a fender and headlight.

What about the valve tick? Is that something to run away from? Or just a maintenance issue?

I am an adept mechanic that has had engines out of multiple cars. I am thinking this one is a $750 car that needs about $1000 to be ready to drive... Has anyone restored a neglected example like this?

Slight tick could be nothing serious or the sign of neglect with no oil and a rod knocking. If it gets to serious then you could even throw a rod.

I would pass but I am not one to pick up poorly maintained vehicles.

So, we know it's a 97, it's white and has 174k. Not a limited, SR5? and probably 2WD?

Oh yeah, engine issues and visible damage. If this is what you want, it may be a good deal or your brand new HEADACHE. But it's your call...I'd pass without a lot more to go on.

Its sketchy for sure, but a lot of deals like this are!

QIt's a 2wd sr5, but my wife wants to sell her sequoia and get another runner...I may pick this up if I can get it for $5-800. The knock goes away when driving so it isn't a rod. Probably just super dirty old oil or valve adjustment.

Where is a good source for body parts? Is finding a wreck to pull them realistic? Or should I plan on buying new?

Yeah, if you can get it down a little. If the oil is reaaaaal old it could have broken down sufficiently to cause the knock. If your game on 2WD, mine is, the body work is totally your call alone.
