New 06 SE tilts/sags on one side.

Hello,

I just got my new 2006 SE 4Runner a couple of days ago. I noticed today that the car tilts/sags on the left side when viewing the car from rear. Initially I thought it's just poor lighting in the parking area of my building. But I've confirmed it by dragging my wife to the parking area to double check this. It's not the tire pressure issue either as I tried to park the car the other way around. It tilts/sags on the left side either nose in or tail in the parking spot.

Is this normal? I've never had this type of issue with my previous cars. (This is my 1st Toyota and SUV)

It seems the parking spot is uneven. Right side is slightly higher than left. When I say slightly I mean it's less than 1/2 degree. Maybe even less.

Is this normal for a 4Runner when the ground is slightly uneven?

I've tried my other car in the same spot. It's a Prelude and the car is much lower than the 4Runner. I do not notice the sagging or tilting on the left side. Really like to know if this seems normal to you.

Please advise. Your comment on this is highly appreciated.

Most vehicles do lean to one side. My MB G and old BMW M3 do it too. However, you may want to check other 4runners to be sure...and have peace of mind.

I would measure the difference between the two sides and then go to your dealership and do the same to other 4runners on the lot. I guess that you can measure the top of the tire to the fender on each side.
 
Yes my t4r leans to one side, on certain days. It is the only vehicle that has done this to me. I have no idea why. It may have something to do with the gas tank being located on the drivers side of the vehicle, where as all my other vehicles had it centrally located. I will check the next time it leans to see if I have a full tank of gas.

The car leans on the left side regardless if I am looking from at the tail or front of the car from the same point. I am wondering if a mere 0.5 degree uneven ground can really do this to my new 4 Runner. Can this be the result of the XREAS suspension?
 
don't forget in japan (where they first made the 4runner) the driver sits on the other side so it's not that lop sided but here in the states everything is on the driver side so you can put two and two together and figure out the lean.

all 4th gens have this problem and even the previous gens too. a quick search will verify this info. it sux and can be annoying but it's just a way of life w/ gravity. doh!

I've checked all the cars in my garage. Including a GX470. None of them seem to lean/tilt/sag towards one side or the other regardless if the ground is uneven.

I am seriously wondering if there is something wrong with my car.Can the XTREAS suspension do this?

I have been checking every car on the road in front of me the past few days. I can't really say if I see any similar situation. I think I might really need to contact the dealer or Toyota directly. Do you know of a 800 Toyota number I can call instead of going to the stealership? I know what the stealership would say. Nothing wrong with the car.
 
WIERD! IT USUALL SAGS 1/2 INCH ON THE PASS SIDE WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE CAR. SO WHEN AN ADVAGE SIZE DRIVEN GET IN IT EVEN THE CAR OUT.

See, that is what gets me. From reading on Clublexus.com, most GX470 does NOT have the lean (according to owners there). The only ones that gets affected by this is the GX470 with KDSS.

If i were you, then i would do what i suggested above...measure your distance b/w top of tire to fender on each side. Then go to the dealership and do the same to the 4runners there. This is will give YOU peace of mind (or not). You see it with your own eyes.

If you ask dealership or call their 1800 number, then you will get the same answer: "It's normal." It will be a waste of time for you.

1 to 1.5 inche less on the left rear side.

Anyone else with the 2006 SE model with the same problem? I am going to dealer tomorrow to take some more measurements. 2006 owners out there. Please kindly check and advise.
 
Could it have been damaged during shipping? Maybe something in the suspension got damanged or bent.

I've watched those people put vehicles on those trucks...they strapped the cars onto the carriers really tight...

One thing I can't remember...in the rear...are there one or two tow rings(hooks)...if just one...which side it it on? Anyone know offhand?

I just went to the garage and took some measurements. Seems like the drivers side on our 2005 V8 Sport w/ Xreas is about half and inch lower than the passenger side.

How full is your gas tank? When you stand behind your vehicle, are you able to see it lean slightly to the left? (Try to stay behind at least 6 feet + and align to the bumper level to observe this)
 
Funny that this topic should come up. When I've walked back to my new 06' Sport after work in the parking lot I've had the same thought cross my mind a few times now. Specifically that the left rear appears lower than the rest of the vehicle. Hadn't really checked it out yet as I thought perhaps it was just a tire pressure issue. Guess I could take a look, but I think I'd prefer to just keep enjoying the truck without that thought bugging at me all the time since so many already report it as normal.

Yes specifically the left rear!!!!! Thanks for checking. Let me know what you find out. Definitely not the tire pressure.
 
Update:

Just went to a local dealership (Not where I purchased the car) No Sports Edition available. So I checked a couple SR5 models.

One is OK. One is slightly leaning to the left as well. Left rear side is defintiely lower than the right rear. Close to an inch. What's going on?

Toyota does not have TSB on this issue.
 
just check my 04 SE mine is 1/2 inch lower on the rear pass side. but when i got in the driver seat i had my friend measure it again and it was even on both side! I weight about 175lb..

The tank was just below half if I remember correctly. To be honest I've never noticed it leaning to the left at all. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention. I'll take a closer look tomorrow. I wouldn't be worried about your car though. Your car is new so it might take a while for everything to settle in completely. And since many people confirmed that theirs is the same way, I wouldn't be worried about it.

It just really does look weird for a brand new car to look leaning one side. I was at a mall complex earlier and i noticed a couple of 4 Runners also with teh same issue. 05 and 04 models. I don't know if this is because I am just a be too anal.
