New 1989 4runner lots of pics( with neon lights and chrome taillights)

hey guys im new here im 17 my name is Hilton and ive been upgrading a VERY clean 89 4runner i got i sold one of my guitars to be able to afford to do my supin up to it, the engine part they did right before i go it. my step moms dad owns a shop and bought it for $500 and fixed up everything and i traded my 89 GMC siarra for it. i thought the 4runner would be ALOT better and its great i LOVE IT! The whole top part of the car, engine, and everything has been rebuilt, new clutch, altinator, and alot of other work too much to list. and now runs perfectly and flawlessly now! its a 5 speed stick shift runner, in the pictures i put up below you can see i added the eight ball shift knob lol. the interier IS VERY clean and the car has virtually no rust. the outside paint is faded and my dad is going to pull out $1000 dollars (and were not rich so were gonna have to work for it haha) for macco to get a legit paint job. im getting it painted close to ferrari red. ALL controls on this thing work except the cruise control. Its got 2 aftermarket switchs one does a security thing you can arm the car i still dont know exactly what it does. and the other mght be a nitrous switch (just kidding) i dont know lol, i havent figured out what it does yet. i put alot of money in his thing in 2 weeks time lol

That thing is clean. Grats on the runner. and welcome to the forums. The lights look good too. Just bought the same style white lights to make some cargo lighting on my own runner. BTW. I'd go with a lift, not a lower.

That is a GREAT looking runner, from what I can see the outside looks good, These runners are getting harder and harder to find, and because they are highly desired, I don't think I would change the exterior color. To do it right you are gonna have to paint the door jams, and firewall. This will affect the value of the runner. Definitly don't lower it! rather than lowering it, SELL IT, take the add-ons that you have spent money on thus far, save the $1000 for the paint, and get yourself a 2wd toyota. Don't get me wrong, I like the looks of a lowrider just as much as the next gearhead, but lowering a 4Runner is just blasphemy. Freshen the existing paint, tint the windows, get some nice wheels and tires, and a small lift kit. You will be the envy of hundreds of Yota lovers across America!

Agreed. Do not lower. I don't understand trying to turn a brick into a bullet, when they already make bullets!?!? Don't take it the wrong way, you are doing a nice job, just taking the really long way around the block, and you probably won' even make it all the way around. A lowered 4x4 with street wheels and chrome is basically useless as a 4x4 or a truck. These vehicles shine brightest when actually used as a 4x4, not a street rod. If you want to lower a truck make it a 2wd Chevy from the 40's or early 50's. You will have better invested money in that.

Looks nice and in great shape. I agree with eveyone about not lowering it. want a steetrod truck, get a 2wd Ranger with a 2.3 lower it and turbo it or stick a 5.0 in it and have fun.

Do yourself a favor... take out the bs lighting, forget about the momo steering wheel, and either leave it stock and make it as original as possible or put a lift and tires on it and take it in the dirt and enjoy it.

Also, not to jump on any bandwagons here but do not lower this truck. LIFT IT if anything! As others have said, your money and time would be much better invested in selling this and getting a 2wd suv or pickup if you want to lower anything. 4wd trucks make horrible low-riders.

These 1st gen runners are exceedingly hard to find in good condition and there are many, many people out there that would buy this off of you as it sits if you decide you want to lower something. Sell it to them and lower a 2wd blazer, s10, ranger, mitsubishi mighty max (if you're liking the 80's or early 90's thing), even a 2wd tacoma or earlier tyota pickup.

I say keep working on this truck, lift it, and enjoy the ability to go damn near anywhere. Oh yeah, and tuck the lights and hide them.

thanks for your input yea man i like the lights exactly where they are. i dont see why its a big deal the ones under the dash are tucked but the ones on the shift console arent and i like them like that. yea i was really lucky to find a good one in this shape on here. i love having a sporty vehicle that still can hold all my band equipment yet looks killer. i love it. i wouldnt sell it for the world. i love it.

i love thats its a 4x4 and i wouldnt lower it it was just a suggestion from my uncle i thought id see what the professioanls had to say about it. if anything id make it a monster BAHAHAH

It sure would make a nice monster! I think tucking the lights might help if you drive with them turned on, if they are a little bright. My buddy had lights similar, in his car and they can cause a moment of night blindness when you drive at night and mess with the stereo or something, then look back up and can't see for a second or two. But if they aren't too bright, and you dig it, then go for it as she rolls now!
