If the truck's as clean as you say, rebuild the whole motor. It'll be like starting from scratch, w/ a brand new motor.......my .02

If something else breaks if you do 'head gaskets only' you'll just regret not doing the whole thing.

A tow dolly costs less than you think from Uhaul. I think it was $20/day when I towed mine 180 miles when I bought it. I told them I was towing a Miata because I was advised they are weird about tow capacities. You can also rent a pickup from them if you don't have a tow vehicle. As someone said, drop the drive shaft. I bought my 4Runner in the mountains and I was glad their tow dollies have a surge brake that helps out with braking. It fit the 4 flat trailer wiring on my vehicle.

The body and paint looks good, tailgate doesn't look to bad. You got one of my favorite colors, silver or white look so good imo! Still has the inclinometer intact, that's cool. I agree with everyone else, have the motor completely rebuilt by a reputable shop, then throw in some newer SR5 buckets in and have fun!

got my 4runner w/294k miles on cl, 6hrs away and drove home

Found my 4Runner on craigslist, 6 hrs away. Drove there to trade my van. It has 294k miles, didn't want to go above 3k rpm, speedo was off over 15 mph, needed tires, bad exhaust leak, vacuum leaks, no headlights, and lots of cleaning. Signed over the titles, and my wife and I jumped in our new 4runner and drove 6hrs straight home with a bad shake around 70-75.

There's nothing like driving across the mountains and the desert in an unknown vehicle with almost 300k miles. Third vehicle buying in another state, and driving home (one from Craigslist, two from ebay). Been lucky each time. :whoo:

Meh, that's nothing!

I bought an '85 supra on ebay years ago, lived in SoCal, flew out to Indiana to get it and drive it home!

Amazing enough, I made it back without any issues whatsoever, although the guy broke the antenna off the morning I picked it up. He wanted to run it through a car wash before he met me at the airport! Nothing like a 30+ hour drive with no music!

And yes, I still have the soop! Ironically, its sitting in my shop with a blown head gasket - again...

Hey,
Still out for verdict, but its looking good so far. It's been installed for about 6 days now and I've only put on about 40 miles. I haven't had any bucking, but I went 5 days a couple weeks prior after tweaking something with no bucking, then it started again. I'm thinking this was the solution, but I don't want to get my hopes up yet!
Also to note. The modulator you sent was smaller than the stock one, I'm sure it does the same thing, but it's smaller. Thought that was interesting.
